April 6, 2010 (Washington Bangla Radio) Handa And Bhonda, the new Kolkata Bengali movie, opened in theaters in Kolkata on April 2, 2010. The film has a starcast of Mithun Chakraborty and child actor Aritra in lead roles, with Paran Bandopadhyay, Biswajit Chakraborty, Supriya Devi and child actors Bittu, Ritika and more.
Mithun plays Handa - an ordinary and average man trying to live life simply and honestly. After his wife passes away, his son Bhonda (played by Aritra) raises complications, partly due to generation gap and erosion of values respected by youngsters.
In an interesting development on Film and Radio convergence, Radio Misty of Siliguri has partnered with Handa and Bhonda. Check out this report for more on this as well as a deeper synopsis of Handa and Bhonda (2010).
Handa and Bhonda has scored good reviews with Bengali cinema lovers by showcasing Mithun Chakraborty's versatility as an actor and excellent performances by everyone including the child actors. Mithun Chakraborty's role is of two different kinds in the two halves of the film. The film addresses generation gap issues successfully, and the movie song sequences mesh well into the script and screen-play.
Hand and Bhonda is directed by Subhankar Chattopadhyay. Music direction is by Surajit Chatterjee of Bangla Band BHOOMI fame.
