Washington DC South Asian Film Festival (DCSAFF)

Washington, DC, April 30, 2013 (Washington Bangla Radio): After a spectacular debut last year, DCSAFF returns to America's capital with a sterling package of the best of South Asian cinema from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

Sponsored by Ceasar Productions, DCSAFF aims to give South Asian filmmakers from around the world a chance to exhibit their films to the diverse cine-going audience of the nation's capital. The Festival brings together a wide variety of films from across South Asia and includes films in Hindi, Urdu, Marathi, Bengali, and Telegu.

This year the theme of the DCSAFF is “Experience different cultures through films” - films will be screened from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka.  All films will have English subtitles. The Festival will have feature films, short films, documentaries, workshops and panel discussions. These independent art films might never be released commercially and this will be the only opportunity to see them. Some of the highlights this year include Opening Night Gala and Red Carpet, Tribute to Jagjit Singh with Farooq Shaikh and Pooja Shah who is a disciple of Jagjit Singh, Meet and Greet with Stars, Awards and Closing Night Celebration.

DCSAFF has a great line up of award winning films and acclaimed Directors and Actors to do post screening discussions after the films. This year you will get to meet Sarita Joshi, Farooq Shaikh, Sanjay Suri, Pooja Batra, Jaideep Verma, Avinash Singh, Samrat Chakrabarti, Meher Jaffri (from Pakistan), Rubait Hussain (from Bangladesh), and many other artists. DC South Asian Film Festival 2013

After a very successful Washington DC South Asian Film Festival (DCSAFF) last year Cesar Production’s Manoj and Geeta Singh are hosting the Second Annual DCSAFF, from May 10-12, 2013, at the Intercontinental Crowne Plaza Hotel, 3 Research Court, Rockville, MD 20850. The film festival will start on May 10, 2013 with a red carpet, reception, and opening ceremony and film attended by acclaimed film artists from India.

Geeta Singh said that “Washington DC was lacking a film festival which was focused on screening films and documentaries from South Asia. DCSAFF provides an opportunity for the South Asian film makers to connect and talk about independent film production and distribution challenges, and new opportunities. This year we are expecting close to five thousand people from all walks of life”.

The annual version of these close encounters with the stars will be held between May 10 and May 12, 2013 at Crown Plaza, 3 Research Ct, Rockville, MD, 20850. This beautiful hotel is centrally located just a short shuttle ride from the Shady Grove Metro Station and 40 minutes outside of downtown Washington.

The festival will kick-off Friday night with an exclusive opening night red carpet gala followed by a feature film tribute. On Saturday night our centerpiece film will be shown. On Sunday evening, the festival close. All guests will be available for question and answer sessions after every movie. Other highlights of the weekend include workshops on film making techniques form renowned artists and technicians, short films directed by local artists "The Story Tellers", and the Washington DC premieres of a number of exciting new films.

DCSAFF 2013 will give a chance for audiences of all ages and ethnicity to discover new South Asian filmmakers, and celebrate ones already well established.
