The 13th Tele Cine Awards was hosted by Mir. He expressed his joy on finding the auditorium full of people. “I have been hosting a number of other award functions and not on a single day the auditorium was full. The auditorium looks like Yuva Bharati Krirangan to me today” said Mir.

After a spirited and energetic Ganesh Bandana, the award ceremony was inaugurated by Satabdi Roy, Tapas Pal, Subhasish Mukherjee and Mrinmoy Kanjilal. Satabdi Roy, looking beautiful in a violet Anarkali, expressed her gratitude to be a part of the award ceremony. Tapas Pal said “It is a good platform as both the young and the veteran actors share the same stage. Getting an award therefore will be even more special for the newcomers.” The actor felt that Saurabh Shukla must be given a prize for his enigmatic performance in Jolly LLB the coming year.

After the inauguration ceremony, Irene Sarkar mesmerized the audience with a medley of songs like “Kagoje ja lekha chilo” and “Eki labonye purno prane”.

The lifetime achievement award which is usually kept as the last award to be given in an award ceremony was the first to be presented here. The award was given to yesteryear actress Sumita Sanyal who has wowed the audience with her performances in numerous films opposite legends like Uttam Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan and Rajesh Khanna. Looking beautiful in a black sari, the actress said “I was surprised when I got a call from the organizers asking to come to the ceremony for this award. I knew that people thought I no longer existed. Even if I want to work, no one approaches me. Hence this is a sweet surprise for me. I am thankful to the organizers for the recognition”. The actress also praised the Chief Minister for her involvement in the art and culture of the city which no other earlier Chief Minister had done.
