ATMOGOPON (Bengali, 2011) - A first look at Somnath Sen's Next

Calcutta, April 24, 2011 (Washington Bangla Radio) Bengali film-maker Somnath Sen (buy Bengali film DVD in USA) has always made films which have been socially relevant and have a strong social message. Swartho, Bela Seshe, Simanto Periye, Ei Aranya are all films based on strong social themes. His current film is probably his first film which is like a thriller and very different from his other films.

Atmogopon - his current Bengali film which is currently being shot at different locations in and around the city of Kolkata is about Bijoy who is on the run after killing the M.L.A Satyabrata Roy and takes refuge in a retired professor’s house. Anu, the professor’s daughter shields Bijoy from the cops when they come calling.

Both father and daughter come to know that Bijoy had murdered the M.L.A because he had killed Rinku, Bijoy’s loved one. Anu’s father also does not know his daughter’s profession. What is her profession? Does Bijoy remain free?

The Tollywood movie has been produced by Sahoyog Productions and the music is by Feroz Islam. The editing is by Dipak Mondol and the cinematographer is Pradip Das. The playback singers are Kumar Sanu and Sadhana Sargam. The director has written the story while the script and the dialogues are by Amitabha Bhattacharya.

The film stars Abhishek Chatterjee, Mumtaz Sorcar (interview), Sanjukta Roychoudhury, Mrinal Mukherjee, Boddhisatwa Majumdar, Sribhigu (Anadi) and the director's favourite actor Subhas Chatterjee who is there in all his films.
