A Joint Venture By Subhash Ghai and Ketan Mehta Promises to bring back ‘Sholay’ in 3D

Mumbai, April 12, 2011 (Washington Bangla Radio / Kreation Guru) Soon, no one will be talking of the Bollywood Hindi movie ‘Sholay’ as the biggest blockbuster film of the 1970s. It is beginning to have a facelift and become one of the 3D films made by Bollywood, thanks to the digital world of today.

Subhash Ghai along with Ketan Mehta is working forward to recreate this film in 3D. Now, even the new generation will enjoy this film in a new way. Both Suhbash Ghai and Ketan Mehta have partnered through Mukta Arts Ltd. and Maya Digital Studios. The film is still in the making but the test show for the producers made them happy and they approved the idea and the effort behind it is worthy of the ‘go ahead’ from their side.

Subhash Ghai is an eminent film producer and director of Indian films. He is also well-known as a screen writer. He has been directing films since 1976. Some of the famous films of Bollywood under his direction are Kalicharan, Meri Jung, Hero, Karz, Ram Lakhan, Karma, Pardes, Khalnayak, Saudagar and Taal. He launched the film production company, ‘Mukta Arts Ltd.’ in 1982. He has made epic movies depicting rich themes of grandeur. Therefore, he is also called the ‘showman’ of the Hindi Films. In the 1990s, two of his films, Taal and Pardes were released world over, and in the US they featured among the Top 20 box-office films for weeks to come. He took to producing movies after his films, Yaadein and Kisna ended up becoming box-office failures. The films, Aitraaz, 36 China Town and Apna Sapna Money Money which were produced by him were box-office hits. He later returned to directing movies among which are Black &White and Yuvraaj.

Subhash Ghai heads the leading movie production cum distribution house, Mukta Arts Ltd, India. It is named after his wife, Mukta. Under its banner, Sholay will be recreated in 3D.

Ketan Mehta is a film director of the Hindi Cinema and has directed TV serials and documentaries.  Bhavni Bhavai, a Gujarati film, the first film directed by him exposed his talent in directing movies. His movies have won international awards such as at Nantes and Moscow Film Festivals. At Hawaii, his film, Mirch Masala, won the Best Film Award. In the US, this movie ran in 52 movie theatres. Ketan Mehta has also served as jury in different film festivals at national and international levels. His other well-known films are Holi, Maya Memsaab, Sardar, The Rising and Rang Rasiya.

Maya Digital Media, the pioneer of the visual effects and animation, is the oldest in the Indian Film Industry. It was founded in 1996. Ketan Mehta and his actress cum director and producer wife, Deepa Sahi, have total ownership of the studio and its business.

Subhash Ghai’s Mukta Arts and Ketan Mehta’s Maya Digital Media will join hands to make Sholay once again an expected blockbuster.
