Amitabh's superstition broken by India's World Cup victory

Mumbai, April 5, 2011 (Washington Bangla Radio / Kreation Guru) Amitabh Bachchan , the megastar of Bollywood silver screen, is a very religious person. Also, he is known for his superstitions in the past. Lately, he revealed one such superstition which he had been harbouring within him for years. Its declaration came after the resounding victory of India in the Cricket World Cup Finals, held at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday, 2nd April, 2011.

Before the match, Amitabh had confessed on his blog that whenever he watched a cricket match with India playing, the country turned out to be a loser. For this reason, the megastar has avoided watching the Indian Cricket Team play since quite some time. From this, it is obvious that Amitabh is patriotic; because of his hidden desire for India to win the matches, he sacrificed his enthusiasm of watching the team playing.

After the overwhelming victory of India over Sri Lanka in the Cricket World Cup Finals just three days ago with Amitabh watching them play, he was overjoyed and relieved to realize that his age-old superstition was finally broken when Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the captain of the Indian cricket team, hit a sixer proving his team’s excellence in the cricket world.

The jubilant Big B, tweeted on his page, ‘Anhonee ko honi kar de, honi ko unhoni! Ek jagah jab jama hon tino- Rajni, Gajni aur Dhoni!!!’ What Amitabh means to say is that where Rajnikanth, Aamir Khan and Dhoni are present at a single location, nothing is impossible. He updated his blog at soon as he tweeted. He said that finally, his age-old superstition was broken. “We won! We are the World Champions! Yeeeehhhh!!” He wrote.

Abhishek, the junior B, admits that all of them avoid watching the Indian Cricket Team perform against other countries because of the very superstition stated above. But, because of their genuine interest in the game and the country’s victory, they get updates from friends on phone. The family did not watch either the quarter-final match between India and Australia in Ahmedabad or the semi-final match between India and Pakistan in Mohali.

Amitabh said that they even resisted watching the final confrontation of India with Sri Lanka for some time but a prompting within him made him give in to the temptation of watching the match, so he switched on the TV. At that instance, India was tottering at 33 for 2. Yet, the family continued to watch, glued to the TV,  till the end when Dhoni  gave the ball a final whack and  watched it scampering away in the sky to claim a historical victory,  marking the triumph for India in the history of the game and triumph for Big B in smacking his long time superstition.

After the match, the trio, Amitabh, Abhishek and wife Aishwarya came out on the streets to celebrate the country’s victory like the rest of the people. To Amitabh, the incredible victory is as though the Indians have just won their independence! He, as an Indian, is greatly delighted about the victory.
