Mar 12, 2010 (Washington Bangla Radio) In 2004, P Vasu's Kannada superhit movie Aptha Mitra was released to sold-out cinema theaters. Aptha Mitra starred Vishnuvardhan, Ramesh Arvind, Soundarya, Dwarakish and more. It was the final performance of popular actress Soundarya before her unfortunate death in a Bangalore aeroplane crash. Aptha Mitra went on to set record breaking revenue collections and receive numerous awards, including 8 filmfare awards for Best Film, Best Actor (Dr.Vishnuvardhan), Best Actress (Soundarya), Best Director (P. Vasu) and Best Music Director (Gurukiran). Aptha Mitra was subsequently re-made in Tamil as Chandramukhi (buy DVD online) starring the Indian superstar Rajinikanth, which also turned out to be huge.

Incredibly, director P Vasu followed up with a even bigger sequel - the Kannada blockbuster Aaptha Rakshaka released on Feb 19, 2010. Vishnuvardhan again had the lead role, with with Sandhya, Vimala Raman, Avinash, Srinivasa Murthy, Bhavana,Lakshmi Gopalaswamy, Komal and more in the star cast. Aaptha Rakshaka has the distinction of both being Dr. Vishnuvardhan's 200th movie, as well as his last movie released posthumously. Dr. Vishnuvardhan passed away after a heart attack in December 2009.

Perhaps P Vasu will follow up with a corresponding Tamil re-make of Aaptha Rakshaka again starring Indian superstar Rajnikanth.
