Somerita and her sister Somdutta had the idea of the Bengali audio songs album “Thamma Tomar Songe” as a tribute to grandparents.  The Bihaan Music album was launched at the ICCR in the presence of eminent personalities like Jaganath Bose, Urmimala Bose, Mallar Ghosh, Srimati Mallika Ghosh, Asish Pal and Sanchari Pathak.

The concept came to the minds of sisters Somerita and Somdutta when the two of them had gone to watch a play called Grihoprobesh at Shovabazar Rajbari and they saw Urmimala Bose there. “The idea suddenly struck Somerita that she could do something for children through her music”, said Somdutta at the music launch.  Somdutta suggested involving Urmimala Bose for their album.

After much discussion between the two of them, they contacted Urmimala Bose with their concept and she agreed to work with their album.

The album is like a letter written to grandparents. With the help of this album, the sisters want to transport listeners to their childhood days. Somerita said “The significant role that grandparents play in our lives has been brought forth in this album. This album is like a tribute to all grandparents.”

Jagannath Bose congratulated Somerita and Somdutta on the beautiful concept. “After her first Nazrul Sangeet album ‘Tobu Bhalobashi’ Somerita and Somdutta have done a commendable job in this album “Thamma Tomar Songe”. The concept is new and refreshing. The use of minimal music has lent a soothing touch to the Bengali Rabindrasangeet songs in the album”, said Jagannath Bose. He also praised the efforts of Bihaan Music.

“Thamma in the album is not only an individual. She is a person who helps you to know about your traditions and also instill great ideas and values in you. This is what I felt during composing this album. I am extremely thankful to Somerita and Somdutta for considering me for the role of Thamma. I hope I have been able to justify my role”, said Urmimala Bose at the music launch.

The album has fourteen compositions. The compositions are a mixture of poems and songs. The music for this album has been arranged by Gautam Shome. The voice of thamma (grandmother) is by Urmimala Bose. The grand-daughter’s voice has been lent by Sanchari Pathak. The script of the album has been written by Somerita. She has also lent her voice to the songs of the album.

Some of the songs in the album are “Aay tobe sohochori”, “Akash bhora surjo tara”, “Kothao amar harie jaowar nei mana”. Somerita even sang a few lines of “Akash bhora surjo tara” for the assembled guests and audience.

“Thamma tomar shonge” is an album not only for the children but will also appeal to the adults. Grabbing a copy of this music album may lead one back to lost childhood memories with grandparents.
