Kolkata, March 15, 2013 (Washington Bangla Radio): Even after completing a hundred years of cinema, films are hardly made for children in India. This compelled director Haranath Chakraborty to make Chayamoy.
The film is based on a novel by noted Bengali writer Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay. The music launch of this film took place at a prominent hotel in Kolkata. Present at the music launch were Goutam Ghosh, Dipankar Dey, Shirsendu Mukhopadhyay, Debojyoti Mishra, Haranath Chakraborty, Monotosh Chakraborty, Prabhat Ray, Nimu Bhowmick, Gourab Chakraborty, Master Adhiraj and Sudip Mukherjee.
Director Haranath Chakraborty was present at the unveiling of the music album and expressed his heartfelt thanks to the author for writing such great stories for children. The film ‘Chayamoy’ has a village named Shimulgarh as its background. The director felt though this is essentially a film for children, grown-ups will feel elated after watching the film as well.
Writer Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay, whose novel is the basis of the film, felt honored that his story has been adapted for the big screen. The author said adapting a story from one medium to another is a difficult job. Hence he gave complete liberty to the director to add or deduct any portions from his original story as may be necessary for cinematographic adaptation, helping him immensely in giving the film a compact look.
The music director of the film is Debojyoti Mishra who has also written the lyrics of the songs along with Srijato. There are three songs in the film- “Ei j ekta akash”, “Kali kapalik” and “Ami ogo radharani”. Mishra felt the characters Shirshendu Mukhopadyay created in his stories will remain eternally young. The music director said he may get older but not the author or his characters.
Eminent film-maker Gautam Ghosh was the chief guest at the music launch, and appreciated the director Haranath Chakraborty's initiative to make a film on a novel by Shirsendu Mukhopadhyay. In spite of wanting to make a film on a Mukhopadhyay story himself, he has not gotten around to it yet.

Dipankar De is playing the negative role of Gagan Sapui in the film. He said promotion must be stressed to make people interested in it. Without good promotion the work of artists will not reach their target audience and the film will not be able to achieve success. He urged the media and the production house Rose Valley Films to promote the film on a large scale.
