Kolkata, March 12, 2013 (Washington Bangla Radio): Drishya and Chitrakoot Art Gallery organized a talk with eminent poet, essayist, novelist and film maker Buddhadeb Dasgupta and noted Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui who is having a high time with his roles in blockbusters like ‘Kahaani’, ‘Taalash’, ‘Chittagong’ and the two movies of ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ series. Present at this conversation was Barun Chandra. The shortage of space did not deter film enthusiasts and the media representatives from attending this talk.

Buddhadeb Dasgupta is regarded as one of the most notable film-makers in contemporary India and is all set to start his next Hindi film “Anwar Ki Ascharya Kahani”. Speaking about this - his fourth - Hindi feature film (the other three films are Andhi Gali, Bagh Bahadur and Woh), the director gave us a peek into what to expect from this movie.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui will be playing the title role of Anwar in his film. When asked why Nawazuddin Siddiqui was chosen for the role, the director was full of praise for the actor. He was very impressed with the roles that Nawazuddin has been portraying on the big screen. He felt that the actor did a great job in Kahaani and though he did not like the film Gangs of Wasseypur, he was impressed with the performance of Nawazuddin Siddiqui. He felt that the actor will be able to do justice to the role of a middle-class Muslim man. This same person is also a detective with an agency and investigates small cases.

A major chunk of the shooting of the film will be done in Bihar and Bengal. Most of the shooting in Bengal will be in Purulia district.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui is in Kolkata for a workshop on the film and is shooting his second film in the city. The actor expressed happiness on the opportunity to work with a director of the stature of Buddhadeb Dasgupta.

Barun Chanda was also present at the conversation. He highlighted the differences in the film making styles of Satyajit Ray and Buddhadeb Dasgupta. He felt Ray was a meticulous planner and knew exactly what he wanted from a particular scene. He was so meticulous that he used to draw a rough sketch on the script of the scene so that the shot can be taken easily. Barun Chanda, who incidentally has worked with Buddhadeb Dasgupta in the film "Who" (in a cameo role), felt the director gives liberty to the actors to portray the characters according to their conceptualization. This liberty often causes pandemonium during shooting but it also gives a different touch.

The conversation session therefore turned out to be very informative about Budhhadeb Dasgupta’s upcoming film. Shooting in Eastern parts of India has been proven lucky for Nawazuddin as films like Chittagong’ and both films of ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ series were successful.
