Kolkata, March 2, 2013 (Washington Bangla Radio): "The Play" is a non-political mystery murder thriller revolving around an acclaimed theater group in Kolkata. One night the entire group gets ravaged by a series of murders. The only survivor sets out to seek the truth, but the answers he was looking for are not the answers he is ready to face.
The Indian Bangla movie star Rajesh Sharma, Mumtaz Sorcar, Indrashish Roy, Rajdeep Gupta, Anindya Chatterjee, Sampurna Chakraborty, Malay Ghosh, Barun Chanda, Debesh Chattopadhyay, Asit Bandopadhyay, Nirmalya Bhakta, Gaurav Roy Chowdhury, Manali Chakraborty, Himanish and others.
The Play is directed by Ranjay RC.
The film features Bengali film songs written by Rajib Chakraborty and music composed and directed by Joy Sarkar. The DoP is Souvik Basu.
The Kolkata Bangla movie will be released under the banner of Antidote Entertainment, a production house formed by two young visionary brothers Amitava Roy and Ranjay RC. The prime objective of Antidote is to make films that are unique and yet entertaining. "We want films that Kolkata can be proud of" say the brothers.
Director Ranjay RC started his career as an artist and received lots of accolades as a painter. His exhibition on Mahanayak Uttam Kumar and Michael Jackson was very well received. He presented APJ Abdul Kalam with his portrait in 2004. He has also worked as a photographer before taking the big decision of portraying his creativity on 35mm.
Ranjay's short "39 Canal Street" was screened at Nandan for Film Federation of India's Film Festival.
Shot on an old Kolkata family residential building on Harish Mukherjee Road and other locations, the Play is expected to release soon.
