Chandrabali R Dutta presents an evening of Rabindrasangeet on 30th March 2011: Birla Sabhaghar

Come 30th March, 2011, Birla Sabhaghar in Calcutta will be resonating with the soul singing of Chandrabali Rudra Dutta and her myriad presentation of Rabindra-sangeet.

A well known vocalist, Chandrabali made her mark in Music quite early in life. Trained initially under her mother and later in classical vocals , Chandrabali is also proficient and has received able guidance in Rabindra Sangeet, Puratani / Tappa, Nazrulgeeti and Adhunik under renowned maestros; she is considered as one of the promising voices belonging to the Bengali Traditional Musical Styles post 2K. Among the well known gurus who contributed to the making of Chandrabali -'The singer', are Shri Sunil Bose, Shri Dhiren Das, Late Sj. Shailaja Ranjan Majumdar, Late Shri Aurobindo Biswas, Shri Prasad Sen and Sri Subhas Choudhury, Shri Chandidas Mal, Shri Biman Mukherjee, Shri Samaresh Roy, Shri Sukumar Mitra and Shri Jatileswar Mukherjee.

Planning for more than 3 months ahead, Chandrabali wishes to present about a dozen Tagore Songs in the first half on the 30th Mar, which will include many compositions that harbor both Basanta and Puja Flavors, like "Aj Jyotsna Raate" and " Eki Labonye Purno Praan"!

The half  however will be comprising of Rabindranath's "Bhanga Gaan" and other rare songs, which will include "Phooley Phooley" and "Purano Sei Diner Katha" along with their Original Occidental versions in English shich will be sung by Chandrabali herself.

She plans to weave the evening with the help of a narrator, Maitreyee, who will take the listener by hand delivering precise explanations; depicting through prose and lines from literature, the essence of each song.

Though the India - Pakistan World Cup Semi Final Match at Mohali  is slated for telecast on the 30th, and rest assured more than 80% Calcuttans would prefer to stay cooped up with crackers, drinks, pocorns and a hair full of nail-biting tension in front of their respective television sets, I hope that Chandrabali too will definitely get her share of discerning listeners for the evening. I wish her all the best for the show.
