Director Sushanta Pal Choudhury On Bengali Movies APARAJITA, ANTARDAHO, AJO DUCHOKHE TUMI, AAMAAR SHOPNO TUMI (Interview)

[Nobboi Ghonta - 90 Ghanta]Calcutta, March 19, 2011 (Washington Bangla Radio) Susanta Pal Choudhury is known in the Tollywood (Kolkata Bengali movie industry) as a sensible director. He started his career as a freelance journalist at the time of studying ground engineering. That time he came in touch with film journalist Tapas Banerjee, who was directing 'Raja Sona' starring Subhendu Chatterjee around 1985-86. Sushanta got the opportunity there to copy the script.

After that he completed his masters in Drama from Rabindrabharati University in 1989. Then he worked with Ajit Ganguly as third assistant director in Biday starring Prasenjit Chatterjee and Satabdi Roy. There he started his acting career too as replacement of Shakti Thakur. That time he acted in “Katha Dilam’ too. But he was keen on directing films.

In early 1990s, he met renowned director Sukhen Das and his son Rajat Das and joined them as chief assistant director for the film Nyay Dwando starring Punam Dhillon. That was a turning point for his career.

Famous actor Utpal Dutta also helped him by referring him to different production houses. Then he got the chance to work as associate director with Rajat Das in the film Katha Dilam (DVD) starring Prasenjit Chatterjee, Ayesha Jhulka, Sukhen Das, Shakuntala Barua etc. That time he started his career as technical director too. Then he got opportunity to direct films and soaps made for television.

In 2008 he directed his 1st feature film 90 Ghonta (৯০ ঘন্টা) [buy Bengali film DVD in USA] produced by Morpheus starring Jishu Sengupta, Swastika Mukherjee, Tota Roy Chowdhury, Yana Gupta, Manjushree and others. The action-thriller featured music by Deb Choudhury.

Sushanta's subsequent films are Hridoyer Ekul Okul and Ek Jhank Ichche Dana. Right now five films directed by him are waiting to be released and he is hopeful for releasing all the five films during this year. All the films are produced by Chacha Video. E Kon Sakal is a film based on love story of a gay guy for a bisexual guy. Antardaho is a film based on triangular love. Ajo Duchokhe Tumi is a special one since this is the last film of Gita Dey. Aparajita is on womens issues Aamaar Shopno Tumi is a love story.

Sushanta is hopeful regarding success of all the films and we wish him all the success.
