Kolkata, Feb 26 (Washington Bangla Radio) - Mahesh Bhatt has announced a Hindi remake of Rajkahini with Vidya Balan in the role of Begum Jaan. The Hindi version will be shifted to India-Pakistan international border. The film will mark the Bollywood debut of Srijit Mukherjee. It is already in pre-production and keeping the director busy in Mumbai.

Rajkahini, Srijit Mukherji’s period drama set in the backdrop of India’s independence and partition of Bengal, was one of the highest grossing Bengali films of 2015. The movie will have its World Television premiere on 28th February 2016 after running strongly in theaters for several weeks. The movie will be exhibited in the Bengali TV channel ‘Star Jalsha’ in Kolkata from 1 PM IST on 28th February. Thus it will be a Television struck Sunday on 28th February for innumerable movie lovers.

The movie deals with the struggle of the dwellers of a brothel which falls on the Radcliffe line (The line marking the international border of India and the then East Pakistan, now Bangladesh. The movie shows how the queen bee of the Brothel Begum Jaan (Rituparna Sengupta) holds fort against all odds to save their home, i.e. the brothel.

Rituparna has played her career defining role in this film which has bagged her Best Actress awards in a number of film festivals including Delhi International Film Festival. There were also towering performances from the likes of  Saswata Chatterjee and Kaushik Sen who play officers representing  India and Pakistan respectively to oversee the effective implementation of Radcliffe line.

The villainous act of Jisshu Sengupta has also been a talking point of the critics and audience. Kanchan Mallik too has been cast in a career defining character which is  a complete u-turn from the comic acts he is known from.  The film also has an ensemble cast of Sudipta Chakrabarty, Ridhima Ghosh, Parno Mitra, Ena Saha, Sohini Sarkar, Saayoni Ghosh, Priyanka Sarkar, joya Ahshan,  Abir Chatterjee, Rudranil Ghosh, Nigel Akkara, Rajatava Dutta and others.
