Belaseshe and Har Har Byomkesh Among Four Bengali Films Selected at International Film Festival of South Asia Toronto (IFFSA)

Kolkata, India, Feb 24 (Washington Bangla Radio) - Bengali film stalwarts Shiboprasad Mukherjee, Nandita roy, Abir Chatterjee, Arinam Sil and Bickram Ghosh along with others came together to announce the selection of four Bengali films at the International Film Festival of South Asia 2016 to be held at Toronto.

Shiboprasad and Nandita Roy‘s ‘Belaseshe - In the Autumn of my life’ has been slected for the film festival. The film broke many records in recent times was the obvious choice for the festival. The film stars veteran actors Soumitra Chatterjee and Swatilekha Sengupta together beside Rituparna Sengupta, Aparajita Auddy and others.

Har Har Byomkesh directed by Arindam Sil has also got a slot at the festival. This Abir Chatterjee, Ritwick Chakrabrty and Sohini Sarkar starrer was one of the highest grossing movies of 2015.

It is  a double celebration for Shiboprasad and Nandita Roy as their short film Joyee has also been selected in the short film category of the festival. Like every single film of the director duo Joyee too deals with a social issue and has a message for the audience.  Joyee depicts the evils of Child marriage. The short film stars Rituparna Sengupta and newcomer Devlina Kumar. Though Rituparna was absent at the event, Devlina graced the occasion.

Anjan Dutta directed and Parambrata, Shayan Munshi and Samrat Chakrabarty starrer Bong Connection too has been enlisted at the film fest. The movie completes a decade of its release in 2016.

Hansdip Singh Bindra, one of the key organisers said, “IIFA is one of the biggest film festivals in North America. The film fest will run for ten days which is going to be a huge treat for movie lovers. The film fest will see a diverse, language independent selection of best feature films, documentaries and short films from around world on themes of South Asian cultures and identities.”

The festival includes two segments : International Film Festival of South Asia (IFFSA) – Toronto with Punjabi International Film Festival (PIFF) – Toronto as a sub segment.

“In addition , the festival will also feature concerts, gala events, lounge parties , seminars and workshops which will provide ample networking opportunitiesfor everyone’”, Hansdip added.

The Festival aims to provide a platform for young South Asian Canadians to showcase their creativity.

IFFSA Toronto 2016 will be held from May 19 - 23 in Toronto, Ontario, Cananda. It will be a part of South Asian Heritage month celebrations.
