Mirchi Music awards in Kolkata: Open Tee Bioscope emerges champion

Kolkata, Feb 14 (Washington Bangla Radio) “Open Tee Bioscope” became the biggest winner this year at Mirchi Music awards which stepped into its fifth year. The film by Anindya Chatterjee bagged most of the major awards slated for a film. The list includes ‘Best album of the year’ and ‘Best song of the year (Bondhu Chol)’ Upal Sengupta won the award for best music composer for the film while Anindya Chatterjee was declared Best Lyricist of the year for the brilliantly penned song Bondhu chol.

Among other major awards, Arijit Singh won the male vocalist of the year for “Ke Tui Bol”, from the film Rabi Kinagi directed “Herogiri” which was filmed on Superstar Dev and Sayantika.

Another big name in the list of awardees was Shreya Ghoshal who won female vocalist of the year. The melodious singer won it for the song “Eto Alo” from the Raj Chakrabarty directed film Katmundu. The song featured tollywood beauties Srabanti and Mimi Chakrabarty.

“Kichhu Kichhu Kotha” from “Lorai (Play…To Live)” also won the Mirchi listeners’ choice award for best song while “Parbona Ami Chharte Toke” was chosen by the listeners as the best album of the year.

The star studded award ceremony was hosted by the tremendous trio of Abir Chatterji, Biswanath Basu and Mir, who himself is an RJ. The asymmetrical combination of hosts was instrumental in making the award ceremony a memorable affair.

Mirchi Music award, which is often called Music Oscars of India saw Tollywood superstar Dev gracing the occasion and taking the show a few notches higher. His performance on the Popular Bengali songs of recent times set the stage on fire and the audience in attendance went almost berserk in the gallery.

‘Parbo na Ami Charte Toke’ famed young ‘jodi’ Bonny Sengupta and Kaushani Mukherjee wooed the audience with a high tempo dance act celebrating the spirit of youth.

Anupam Roy, Anindya Chatterjee and Rupankar performed songs which surely touching the heart of the audience.

Charming actress Srabanti too created ripple in the hearsts of the audience present with her super sensuous dance act.

Mirchi Music Award also conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award to singer Arati Mukherjee. Arati Mukherjee is known for his mesmerizing voice which has been extensively used in both Bengali and Hindi films over years. Her voice has been featured on Legendary actors like Suchitra Sen, Tanuja, Madhabi Mukherjee, Sharmila Tagore, Rakhee Gulzar and Aparna Sen.

Noted musician Sameer Khasnabis won “Special Jury’s choice for outstanding contribution to Bengali music” award. Sameer Khasnabis who had started his musical career as a Spanish guitarist soon make it big in the music arena. He played as an accompanist with legends like Kishore Kumar, Mohd. Rafi, Mukesh and Ghulam Ali. Sameer also played pivotal roles in the successful making of Asha Bhoshle’s Ghazal album and Manna Dey’s hit album ‘Sara Jiboner Gaan’. Anupam Roy was awarded “Royal Stag Make it Large award 2015” for his recent achievements in Bollywood as the Music director of Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone starrer ‘Piku’. He aptly deserved this award for making Bengal proud in the national scenario.It was let known that more than 2200 songs, released in 2015 were judged by a judges’ panel of thirty two luminaries of Bangla music in an effort to present awards to the most deserving and outstanding artistes of the year in various categories. The entire process of judging was held in secret ballot handled by the renowned audit firm Ernst & Young. The songs were adjudged for total 22 award categories.

Mirchi Music awards started in Mumbai in the year 2008 and reached Bengal in 2011. This jury based award has recognized excellence in film and non-film music like Contemporary Bengali songs, Bangla Band, remake of classics and other genres.. To celebrate the 150th year of Tagore, Mirchi Music award honored those artistes who have excelled in Rabindra sangeet. It has promised to add many categories in the coming years.
