Tagore remembered through his songs in Baanchbo Sarad Samman


Kolkata, February 15, 2015 (Washington Bangla Radio): Baanchbo Sarad Samman 2014 which was recently held at ICCR in Kolkata turned out to be a lovely affair. The evening saw some mesmerizing performances by the children and the eminent artists present at the function.

The Dance Drama "Kanya Jaya Janani" by children of Sundarban, precisesly the students from Vikashita school run by Banchbo at Indranarayanpur village,Patharpratima & children of Kolkata including marginalized children was a delight to watch as it expored the life of women in Bengali society. The dance drama was conducted by Ms.Kuhu Chowdhury & Ms.Ratna Samanta (Sundarban). The script was written by none other than Dr.Dhires Kumar Chowdhury, the prime man of the organization.

              

The dance drama was followed by a group Song - "Humko mon ke shakti dena" again by the stuedents of Bikashito school in Sunderban. Mayuk Chowdhury leaded the group song.

There was also a series of mimes performed by the children of Sundarban and marginalized children from Kolkata which reflected social messages like hygiene and communal harmony. Sushil Sharma was the person who conducted the mimes.

The main attraction of the evening was ‘Prachyo o Paschayater Robi’, musical tribute to the world Poet Rabindranath Tagore. Dr Utsab Das along with London based artist Tanushree Guha performed the various songs composed by the poet while Dr.Dhires Kumar Chowdhury accompanied them by reading the script.

Sharmi Roy too paid tribute to the Noble laureate by performing dance invoking the start of spring in the programe titled ‘Basanter Gaane naach’ (Dance in the songs of spring).

Tollywood actress Priyanka, who is also the goodwill ambassador for the organization graced the occasion and gave away prizes to the winners.
