Kolkata, Feb 18, 2013 (Washington Bangla Radio): It was  a cold afternoon in February as the shooting of a dance number for the film Koli was completed at Technician’s Studio, Kolkata. “Rajkanya Re” was the song which was captured with full enthusiasm at the studio. The studio was given the look of a village fair and the hero and other dancers moved to rhythmic tunes of the song. The song has elements of Bengali folk as well Marathi ‘Lodi’ music. The sequence is about the hero visualizing the heroine as the princess of his dreams.

Surojit Chatterjee, the music composer of the song, was present at the shoot. Since he did not have other engagements, he dropped by to watch the shoot and was elated at how things were shaping up. In the film, he has composed the music of this song only and he hopes that the audience will like it. ‘Jome Kheer’ is the other project he is working on.

Also present at the venue was director Partha Chakraborty. He revealed some details of the plot and talked about various aspects of the film. The story is based in a village named Jeetpur in the hills. Koli (Ruplekha) is a vibrant young girl who develops a friendship with Shankar (Heerok). Shankar helps Koli continue her studies and also supports her family. Over time Koli realizes her bonding with Shankar is turning into something more than friendship. What happens to thier relationship is what the rest of the film is about.

The director highlighted that Bengali culture which is fading out will be showcased in this film. He said the film, despite being a commercial flick, is devoid of vulgarity and one can take the entire family to watch the film in the movie theaters. "Koli represents life, humanity, struggle and most importantly love", said Chakraborty.

Dressed as the village boy, actor Heerok gave us a sneak peek into his character Shankar. Shankar is a down-to-earth person who takes care of Koli. He has no complexity in his character. On being questioned why he chose this role, the actor, who earlier worked in the film ‘Egaro’, said he found the script simple and yet very interesting. He also felt the audience will like this film and the unexpected climax will work in it's favor.

Koli (played by actress Ruplekha) described her character as of a simple village girl. Having lost her father, she lives with her mother. It is Shankar who helps her out of a financial crisis and encourages her to continue her education. Thus their relationship slowly grows deeper. Ruplekha also praised her co-actor Heerok for his support and admitted to often playing pranks on him!
