One rainy evening of July 2007, a group of young men with dreams in their souls felt an inexorable need to express their thoughts, feelings and desires about the present society and the times. They decided to do so the only way they knew. Music, only Music, and nothing but Music.
And from that very moment the ball started rolling. Parijaat Bangla Band had arrived.
With no further delay, Parijaat commenced on creating folk based contemporary music with the essence of fusion, the kind of music an audience can listen to without having to try hard to figure out what the songs are saying. "Not so hard to swallow but strong enough to support the lyrics." says Kingsuk Roy, vocalist and keyboardist with Parijaat.
“Amra dur akasher neshay matal ghar bhola sab jato,
Bakul boner gandhe akul moumachhi der moto…..
Their first album "Ki Korbi Kar" was released by Prime Music, a leading Kolkata-based record label, in 2008. The album found itself immediately acclaimed by a broad range of music lovers for it's directness. Two more albums followed in 2009 and 2010 titled "Charidike Kadajal" and "Green Signal" also under the Prime label, both of which were also successful and gained immense popularity.
The fourth album "Pagol" was released by Prime on Mahalaya day of 2011, inaugurated by the noted Rabindrasangeet and Bengali Modern song singer Alak Roychowdhury.
Parijaat tried something a bit different with their 2012 album "Aasman Zameen" (Raga Music) which features more traditional folk songs in a band format. "Hope everyone will appreciate our new venture. Please listen to it and give us your support and valuable feedback." says Kingsuk.
Music videos of some songs from Parijaat albums are being continuously aired by Indian TV Channels like S Bangla, Zee Bangla, R Plus, Sony 8, Channel 8, Akash Bangla and Tara Muzic. Two Interviews of Parijaat were recently telecast by Akash Bangla and Shaan TV. Houston, Texas based internet streaming radio channel Radio Masti broadcast a live interview with Parijaat earlier this year.
Parijaat have toured across various towns of West Bengal (from Uttarbanga Utsab to Sea Festival) to New Delhi (consecutive two years 2010 & 2011) to New Bongaigaon, Assam and many more places, spellbinding their audience wherever they go. And it’s still going on ...
