The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) Promo

The good news and the bad news: Let’s hear the bad news first. No Sam Raimi and no Toby Maguire and of course no Spiderman 4. All rumors of Matt Damon being Spidey 4 are also gone down the drains. The good news, The Amazing Spider-Man is to be released soon and the super bad news is USA will be the last…like Tintin.
Lot of rumors and stories had been going around Sam Raimi’s disagreement with Sony Pictures but the Spidey fans were hoping that things would get sorted out soon and soon we would see Peter Parker spinning his web on the silver screens. But no, that isn’t happening. The new trailers have been released and guess who the new Spider Man is? None other than the CFO of Facebook (read The Social Network) Yes, you’ve guessed it correct it’s Andrew Garfield.
The film is directed by Marc Webb and the screenplay is by Steve Kloves (Harry Potter fame), James Vanderbilt and Alvin Sargent. There would be quite a few new characters and some important roles will be played by new people. Firstly, there is no MJ. Instead there is Gwen Stacy, Peter’s love interest from High School played by Emma Stone. Aunt May would be portrayed by Sally Field (Forrest Gump, Mrs. Doubtfire) instead of the very affectionate looking Rosemary Harris. The villain here is ‘The Lizard’ a.k.a Dr. Curt Connors played by Rhys Ifans. The most interesting news is perhaps about Irrfan Khan from Bollywood who would be playing the role of Dr. Ratha. All the best, Irrfan!!
The trailer doesn’t look to be very promising and there is some kind of action missing. Not sure if it’s going to be the same in the film. But let’s keep our fingers crossed that the new Spidey is loved by all and the film is a hit.

A quick look at Raimi’s Spider Man trilogy:

Spider Man:

Peter Parker gains superhuman strengths after being bitten by a genetically modified spider at a school trip. His uncle is murdered and Peter blames himself for this. His fight with Norman Osborn alias Green Goblin (who is unfortunately the father of Peter’s best friend Harry Osborn) begins when he tries to save New York from him.

Spider Man 2:

Peter has to fight against Dr. Otto (Alfred Molina) or Dr. Octopus to prevent him from destroying half of New York City. Dr Otto’s advice, ‘with great power comes great responsibility’ became popular among all Spidey fans.

Spider Man 3:

Peter fights his rival photographer in ‘The Bugle’ Eddie Brock and the ‘Sandman’ Flint Marko. A mysterious black element clings on to Peter and his shade and nature turns black and dark respectively. Peter frees himself from the ‘black’ image and it ultimately gets hold of Eddie as Venom.
