Latest Updates from Tollywood

February 20, 2011 (Washington Bangla Radio / Pen Men at Work):
Nobel laureate Amartya Sen’s gorgeous daughter Nandana Sen, who is better known for her cascading locks and smoking-hot bod, is ready with her next Bengali venture with national award winner Shekhar Das’s ‘Kaler Rakhal’.  The stunning bong lass is already in the news for her acclaimed performance in Srijit Mukherji’s debut film ‘Autograph’, an alluring tale about love, fame, passion and mistrust.

Do we remember that petite girl whose innocent face and sublime  beauty once got our Salman bhai smitten? Yes, we are talking about Sneha Ulal, whose first film ‘Lucky’ opposite Salman Khan was a mammoth failure in the box-office. But the good news is that Sneha is putting her first steps into Tollywood  with ‘ Most Welcome’, a film jointly produced in Calcutta and Bangladesh.  We wish her all the luck and may this one fares better than her previous doom!

Eminent director Buddhadeb Dasgupta’s much anticipated ‘Janala’ is all set to hit the screens in Kolkata after some glorious response in some top notch world film festivals including Toronto International Film Festival, London Film Festival , New York Film Festival and even Mumbai International Film Festival.  So come the 25th of February, the city will be ready to experience some good cinema.

Some little bird was flying around with the news that our favourite Bong export to Bollywood, Rani Mukherji is in talks with ‘Antaheen’ maker Aniruddha Roychowdhury’s new endeavour, ‘Africa’.  Sources revealed that Rani has showed ardent interest in the script although things are yet to be finalised between the director and the actress.  Well, what we could do in the meanwhile is keep our fingers crossed!!!

With ‘The Social Network’ already performing massive overseas, our indigenous take on the global subject of social networking and the Facebook generation ‘Takhon Teish’ is enjoying quite a recognition. Delving into the psychological territory of the net-savvy generation of Kolkata, first-time director Atanu Ghosh’s  film is all set to woo audiences at the Osaka Asian Film festival sometime very soon. Well done Atanu, indeed!

Actor Parambrata seemed all-excited about his directorial debut ‘Jio Kaka’, which is attracting mass audiences to the theatre. After a brief hiatus from the screen ( Param was pursuing a filmmaking program at  some UK university), the thinking-woman’s-man is already flooded with congratulatory texts and messages as his film is doing a decent business in the metro. Moreover, with a mysterious phirang beauty by his side in all city-parties, things seem to be very exciting for the city actor!
