Agnishwar, directed by Arabinda Mukherjee, also stars Sumitra Mukherjee, Tarun Kumar, Jahar Ray, Dilip Roy, Subrata Chatterjee, Sulata Chowdhury, Kajal Gupta, Tarun Kumar and others. The great Hemanta Mukherjee directed the music of Agniswar - Sumitra Mukherjee's rendering of Rabindrasangeet Tobu Mone Rekho remains etched in the Bengali memory.

A patriotic film about a fiercely idealistic doctor with themes of social evils and encouragement of broad-mindedness, the film was very relevant for it's time and remains so today. The doctor faces characters equally magnanimous - a woman selling her body to fund freedom fighters, his own son trained in social reform marrying a woman of his choice and out of his caste with an additional twist of an anti-dowry message, and so on deliver a series of powerful messages.

The film is based on a story by Banaful. Agniswar was shot in black and white.
