Sanchalika Acharya - Bengali Poem Recitation - BANGLA KOBITA ABRITTI

Germantown, Maryland, Feb 10, 2011 (Washington Bangla Radio) Sanchalika Acharyya has performed more than 70 stage shows of dance, recitation and sruti natok (Bengali audio drama). She counts Kathak dancing, Recitation and Gardening among her varied interests. Sanchalika is a District-level champion in recitation for three consecutive years, 1996, 1997 and 1998, at the Chatra Yuva Utsav.

A gifted student, Sanchalika is a Biotechnologist and a PhD candidate at Calcutta University, awaiting her doctoral degree at the time of this post. She has been awarded with Senior Research Fellowship by Indian Council for Agricultural Research in 2006 and 2009 and has published research work in a number of national and international scientific journals.

Sanchalika hails from a cultured family, and has grown up with all creations and compositions of Rabindranath Tagore starting from his songs, poems, drama to his essay and travelogues. She has developed a distinct taste towards melodious absorption and mesmerizing hymns. A trained danseuse in Indian classical Kathak dance of Lucknow Gharana, she successfully completed up to fifth year of her training with distinction.

Sanchalika, surprisingly, has never had any formal training on recitation. It was when the head mistress of her school identified her for elocution to be held on Independence Day celebration that her performance brought a lot of praise. Since then she started to recite aloud from Sanchayita and Offerings of songs at home.

Later she performed both dance and recitation on stage and won several district level competitions. After starting her career as a researcher she had no time for dancing but she could not restrain herself from reading poetry. Whenever she get extra leisure time she finds herself totally absorbed in the world of words, melody and rhythm.

Sanchalika's husband is a professor of Biostatistics,  and she is currently taking a short break from her career and enjoying the perpetual state of ecstasy. While training herself to enjoy the chores in a funny way, she can now invest more time to self-actualization through reading, listening and performing soulful compositions.
