New Delhi, Feb 7 (IBNS) Delhi Metro authorities are all set to introduce six-coach trains on the Jehangirpuri- Gurgaon line after a week of trials to cope with the pressure of increasing commuters.

 

More than 1.5 million passengers commute in Delhi Metro with the trains making 2,700 trips daily on six operational lines.

 

Railway sources said during the trial runs on Line-2, the six-coach trains would stop the changed points of all stations.

 

 However, all four-coach trains running on this line will halt at the normal stoppage points.

 

The trial run was necessary to ensure full safety of the rolling stock, signalling, electrical and other systems of the six coach trains, a metro spokesperson said.

 

"After pressing two six-coach trains into service, we will add one every week. We will convert 54 trains into six-coach trains to ply on Line 2. Once this gets done, carrying capacity will be up by 50 per cent and each of the six-coach trains can carry about 300 passnegers, “ said Raj Kumar, director (operations), DMRC.
