[Indraneil Sengupta]Germantown, Maryland, Feb 2, 2011 (Washington Bangla Radio) Indian model and actor Indraneil Sengupta recently created waves in the Tollywood film industry with his spectacular performance alongside Rituparno Ghosh and Chapal Bhaduri in Kaushik Ganguly's (interview) Arekti Premer Golpo which released in Kolkata on Christmas Eve 2010. Indraneil has also received much acclaim for his prior performances in Bengali films like Srijit Mukherji's (interview) Autograph co-starring Prasenjit Chatterjee (interview) and Nandana Sen, Riingo Banerjee's (interview) Jodi Ekdin, Atanu Ghosh's (interview) Angshumaner Chhobi alongside Indrani Haldar [Buy Bengali Movie DVD in USA], Buddhadev Dasgupta's Janala and others.

Arijit Chakraborty caught up with Indraneil in Mumbai in this informal but candid interview where Indraneil talks about his fascinating journey in modeling and films and shares with us his thoughts, dreams and aspirations going forward.

Indraneil was born in Tinsukia in Assam, and his dad being an ONGC officer with a transferrable job, Indraneil grew up in cities across India. He has lived in Agartala, Assam and Mehsana, Gujarat followed by Ahmedabad, Gujarat with his family. By the year 2000 Indraneil was ready to take charge of his own career and moved to Mumbai, where he is primarily based out of, though Kolkata is now his second home.

Indraneil has a bachelors degree in Biochemistry and a Masters degree in Business Administration with specialization in marketing. He was working in his field of training when he happened to come across a web-site announcing the Gladrags Manhunt Contest of 1999, in which he decided to compete and ended up being a finalist in! He subsequently spent a brief but glittering career in modelling, and modelled for designers like Rohit Bal and worked for choreographers like Marc Robinson and Achala Sachdev.

Indraneil continued his rapid ascendance with television advertising assignments (his appearances in TV commercials for the Tata Indigo Marina car, VIP Frenchie and Aquafina are remembered by many), followed by acting roles in Television serials and subsequently debuting in Bengali film in 2009. Do not miss Indraneil's description of the VIP frenchie ad that involved two hot girls watching him with binoculars while he worked out with dumbells at his balcony !

One of the first television serials Indraneil played the hero in was Pyaar Ke Do Naam Ek Radha Ek Shyam on STAR Plus that had the fascinating storyline of two lovers finding each other across multiple reincarnations. You will listen to Indraneil describe the curious circumstances of expecting to audition for a feature film - but not being a great aspirant of acting in a TV series, when he found out the audition was for a TV show, how he tried his best to wiggle out of the audition but was offered the role anyway ! In particular, he flatly refused to trim his hair and beard for the role in spite of being instructed to do so, and refused to give a second take for the audition, hoping such actions would result in him not being selected, but the selectors did not comply with his wishes!

In any case, Indraneil met Barkha Bisht during that time and the two played out a real-life love story and are happily married now.

Indraneil went on to act in a couple of more TV shows before getting a call from Buddhadev Dasgupta, the award winning internationally acclaimed Bengali film-maker. Indraneil subsequently debuted in Bengali cinema by playing the lead role in Buddhadev Dasgupta's JANALA which has been very well received across the world in film-festivals and is awaiting release in India.

Indraneil's upcoming films include URO CHITHI - the directorial debut of Kamaleshwar Mukherjee (interview) - the accomplished writer, and Riingo Banerjee's SYSTEM where Indraneil will be seen for the first time as a action hero in a stylized film about the Kolkata underworld.

Here is wishing Indraneil Sengupta a spectacular career in films, and we are all waiting eagerly to see him in the role of Feluda - a role that the young talented actor himself would like to play.
