Some Moments from Dover Lane Music Conference 2010 | Washington Bangla Radio Exclusive
Dover Lane : the street in Ballygaunge, Kolkata is famous for none other than the renowned Musical Conference organizing every year. The Dover Lane Music Conference is being attended not only by Kolkata Music Lovers but by Music Lovers from all over the India. Also one can notice presence of Foreigners in huge numbers in this Music conference. As told by Living Legends of Indian Classical Music like Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, performing at Dover lane is homecoming to them.
Our sincere gratitude to Mr. Bappa Sen, Secretary of that prestigious Music Conference, to give us the opportunity to cover the 58th edition held from 22nd to 25th January, 2010 at Nazrul Mancha, Kolkata.
This year Dover lane authority organized all the days as night long events.
The 1st day was dedicated to Ustad Ali Akbar Khan Sahab so the night was comprised by Sarod recital only. Anindya Banerjee, Shiraz Ali Khan, Kamal Mallick, Alam Khan and Ashish Khan were the performers that day.
The second day was in the memory of Pandit Tarapada Chakraborty. Subroto Roychowdhury on Sitar, Manas Chakraborty on vocal, Jugalbandi of Tarun Bhattacharya on Santoor and Ronu Majumdar on Flute, Manjiri Asanare – Kelkar on Vocal and Shahid Parvez on Sitar were the performers that day.
Pandit Subhankar Banerjee" align="left" hspace="8">The 24th evening was in memory of Prabhat Kr. Das. That evening started with Rudra Veena Performance by Baha’ud-din Dagar. After that excellent presentation, we got the opportunity to listen to one of the best performances of this year's Dover Lane music conference: Indian classical vocal by Ustad Rashid Khan. Pandit Subhankar Banerjee accompanied him on Tabla. That was a excellent presentation from both of them, specially the Jhalas. That performance was followed by Sitar Recital by Pandit Kushal Das accompanied by Pandit Subhankar Banerjee on Tabla. That powerhouse performance was also very good comprising Ragas Darbari Kanara and Charukeshi. After Pandit Kushal Das, Shubhada Paradkar took the stage and she delighted the audience by singing Basant, Sahana Kanada, Bandish, Kheyal, Mishra Khambaj Tappa. The 3rd night's last presentation was of Santoor by living legend Pandit Shivkumar Sharma accompanied by Pandit Anindya Chatterjee on Tabla. He took the stage around 4.30 A.M. and Performed Raga Antardhwani to create Meditation Environment at Bramha Muhurto. This is also one amongst best performances of this year's Dover Lane.
The last evening was dedicated not to any person but to save the environment. The evening started with vocal by Jayateerth Mevundi. After that, the legendary Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia took the stage with Pandit Subhankar Banerjee on Tabla and they brought the feeling of Lord Krishna with his accompanist at Dwapar era’s Brindavan. The performance was very good. He started with Raga Durga and mesmerized the audience with dhoon of Kirtan. The 3rd performance was a commanding one as Padma Talwarkar delighted all with her excellent voice and skills. The last performance of this year's Dover Lane saga was Sarod recital by none other than Ustad Amjad Ali Khan accompanied by another legend Tanmoy Bose on Tabla along with Vineet. Ustadji started the dawn with Miya ki Todi and gave the audience a memorable experience.
We hope to continue to listen to truly classical performances every year at the very prestigious, aristocratic and famous Dover Lane Music Conference.
