Raj BasuRaj Basu - our beloved Raju-da - was a hero who set out with great enthusiasm to pursue his dreams. In his very essence a risk-taker - which is partly responsible for his spectacular success at a very young age, Raju-da - an Engineering graduate from Jadavpur University with a passion for film-making, re-defined boundaries in Bengali cinema in his own unique ways.

Some say the great powers above need good people and sometimes cut short their stay on Earth to pull them over, as in the case of Raj Basu. Needless to say, Raju-da, you will live on as an inspiration to follow one's dreams in the hearts of a whole generation of Bengalis, including myself. You were, are, and will be a personal hero of mine - you have taught us what is really important and what is not.

Raj Basu - among the best of the sons of Bengal, continued on his greater journey, leaving behind his wife, son and daughter, and us all, on January 28, 2010 at 9:45 PM.

Here is Raj Basu speaking about his ground-breaking movie Piyalir Password, recorded on Mar 19, 2009. Piyalir Password is the 3rd film by Raj Basu, after Aaghat (1997) and Wings of Hope (2001). Piyalir Password has the distinction of being the first film shot entirely in the United States, and is a pioneering film towards the global Bengali movie movement.
