Rabindra Utsav organized by Happenings, Kolkata | Celebrating Rabindranath Tagore and Calcutta

Rabindra Utsav - Happenings - KolkataHappenings is a group of avid Kolkatans, begun a citizen’s initiative to revive the image of Kolkata and the Eastern region as an area to reckon with. To achieve this, a series of happenings is being visualized to take place throughout the year. Through these the attention of the rest of India and the World is to be attracted, ultimately leading to a positive change in the perception of Bengal and the East.

In August 2006 Happenings entered the second episode of their cultural journey, Rabindra Utsav to rediscover the various aspects of Rabindranath Tagore’s works.

The Rabindra Utsav has grown to include performances of theater, dance and music by groups from across the country, performing in their own languages and styles. All the works should be original commissioned for the Utsav by Happenings, adding valuable material to the performance repertoire of the country.

The Ministry of Information and Culture, Government of West Bengal are with Happenings to organize Rabindra Utsav on regular basis.

Eminent people like Sitarist Pandit Buddhadeb Das Gupta, Violin Brothers, M K Raina, Vikram Iyengar, Koushik Sen, Chetan Datar, Arun Mukhopadhyay, Sohag Sen, Dhritiman Chatterjee, Anasuya Mazumdar, Bimbabati Devi, Soumitro Chatterjee, Jay Goswami, Kalika Prasad with their troupes participated in different chapters of the Rabindra Utsav.

Happenings also gave opportunity to upcoming talent to perform in Rabindra Utsav.

We expect more and more original highly qualitative performances from Rabindra Utsav every year.
