BACHCHAN RECITES BACHCHAN is a fabulous album sure to entertain all Hindi poetry and Ghazal lovers. Amitabh Bachchan, in the unique bass-baritone voice of his, recites some magnificent poems written by his father, the acclaimed poet Padma Bhushan Dr Harivansh Rai Bachchan (1907 - 2003).
Born Harivanshrai Srivastava, Bachchan is an adopted title that he took up formally while working towards his Ph.D. in Cambridge, England in the early 1950s.
His influences include Mahatma Gandhi, and he was instrumental in establishment of Hindi as the National Language of India. Among numerous awards, he was a recipient of the Sahitya Academy and Padma Bhushan awards, the latter being the third highest civilian award in India.

Many of us who have studied Hindi as a language in the Kendriya Vidyalaya school system in India that follows the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) syllabus vividly remember Dr Bachchan's wonderful poems in our school text books.
