FFACE Calendar Celebrating a Hundred Years of Bengali Cinema Launched in Glittering Fashion Show in Kolkata (Slideshow)

Kolkata, Jan 31 (Washington Bangla Radio) - Hundred years of Bengali Cinema was recently celebrated by FFACE as it launched its calendar of 2016.  Six legendary icons from the Bengali film industry, namely actors Sabitri Devi and Supriya Chatterjee, singer Aarti Mukherjee, cinematographers Soumendo Roy and Shakti Banerjee and director Tarun Majumder were felicitated during the event.

The third edition of FFACE’s calendar has also been designed to pay tribute to the Journey of Bengali film industry as the twelve models featured in the calendar got into attires resembling the lead characters of twelve landmark cinemas in the History of Bengali cinema.

The glamorous evening saw director Raj Chakrabarty, Actor Rudranil Ghosh, Mimi Chakrabarty and Indrasish Roy along with proprietor of FFACE Neil Roy handing over souvenirs to the legends who were felicitated at the event. Sayani Datta was there as well. Sujoy Prasad Chatterjee turned emcee for the evening.

The first theme song of FFACE was launched this evening. The song has been sung by Aritra Banerjee while Pias Das has penned the lyrics of the song. With providing these two newcomers their maiden flight in professional arena, FFACE makes it clear that it will not keep its activities restricted to field of fashion only. FFACE also launched two new designers namely Sohini Basu and Ankita Choudhury. The guests present at the event got a glimpse of the immense potentiality these two rookie designers possess as the models walked the ramp wearing their collections.

The evening  also witnessed a stunning fashion show where the models featuring in the calendar walked the ramp in traditional as well as western garments. Members of film and Fashion fraternities of Kolkata were present at the show and they were seen cheering loud for the models as they walked and posed keeping their moves synced with the Bengali songs playing in the background.

Actor Arjun Chakrabarty was present at the event along with his better half Nilanjana Sengupta. Actress Malobika Banerjee too graced the event. Shataf Figar and Manoj Michigan were also spotted bonding together at the event. Designer Agnimitra Paul and actress Saayoni Ghosh too dropped by at the event. Indroneel Mukherjee was seen busy overseeing the back stage though he took his time out to meet and greet the guests attending at the event.

A look at the calendar revealed that a chronological order has been maintained as the calendar progresses from January to December. Gourab has been given the attire of Raja Harsihchandra inspired from the film Satyabadi Raja Harishchandra. The silent movie made in 1917 by Rustamji Dholakia and regarded as the first movie made in Kolkata as well as the first remake movie of India.

Piyali portrays Alaka from the movie Dena Paona (1931) while Tushar Sen appears in lieu of Pramothesh Barua’s character in Mukti (1931).

Shubashree Kar appears in the calendar as Gopa from Bimal Roy’s classic Udyoer pothe (1944). Dusky beauty Lydia Walters represents Durga from Satyajit Ray’s masterpiece Pather Panchali (1955).

Anusuya from Rwithik Ghatak’s Komal Gandhar (1961) was portrayed by Manjuri Dey. The character was played by Supriya Devi.

The character Rina Brown from Ajoy Kar’s Saptapadi (1961) immortalised by Suchitra Sen was represented in the calendar by Popi Bera.

Sneha Mitra got into the attire of Charulata, the title role from Satyajit Ray’s 1964 film played by Madhabi Mukherjee.

Sushmita Pal is Madhabi Mukherjee from Mrinal Sen’s film Baishey Srabon. Jass Sarkar and Shreyoshi Ghosh represented characters from Sogina Mahato and Dadar Kirti respectively.


Arshee Vimani Roy got to portray Binodini from Rituporno Ghosh’s Chokher Bali in which Aishwarya Rai played the character.
