Radio One Celebrates Woman Power in Kolkata Through Vidya Balan's "Superwoman" Initiative

Kolkata, Jan 18 - Danseuse Alokananda Roy, ace archer Dola Banerjee, top Model Jessica Gomes and designer Agnimitra Paul recentlycame together in an evening which celebrated woman power.

Hosted by the popular radio station ‘94.1 Radio One’ , the initiative has been titled Superwoman where the radio station felicitates inspiring women achievers from various fields

Top Bollywood actress Vidya Balan is the face of Superwoman which ran across seven cities of India, namely Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Pune, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Chennai.

WBRi was present at the Kolkata leg of Superwoman which recently took place in Floatel. Present at the event was danseuse Alokananda Roy, ace archer Dola Banerjee, top Model Jessica Gomes and designer Agnimitra Paul. Other recipients of the Superwoman awards were actress Mamata Shankar, June Maliah, Sudiptaa Chakrabarty and well known Bangladeshi model turned designer Bibi Russel though none of them could turn up at the event due to various professional commitments.


As RJ Roy and RJ Shelee, the two Radio One hosts conducted the programme in their trademark witty style,the evening turned into a gala adda and the awardees present at the do shared their stories, views and opinions in various topics including their journey to success and their fields of work.

Alokandanda Roy who is known for her dedicated work in the reformation of prison inmates said at the event, “No child is born criminal. Children grow up to become criminals due to many reasons which include provocation, torture and misguidance. Crimes should be dealt with tough hands and criminals should be punished. But the criminals should  also begiven a scope  to reform themselves  and lead a decent life.”

Dola Banerjee said , “People will always be skeptical about you when you do something which most of others don’t. When I took up archery there were people , some of them very close ones who used to laugh about it behind my backs. But I pursued my passion for the sport and never lost my focus.”

Agnimitra Paul said  that being a girl from a small town like Asansol, it was never easy for her to make her family accept that she would pursue fashion designing. She shared with the guests her days of struggle which has molded her into a successful designer that she is today.

Jessica Gomes too shared how she balanced the life of being a model, a teacher, a wife and a mother which was never an easy task.
