Deewana: What to expect in the Jeet-Srabanti Bangla Film

Jeet and Boney Kapoor at Deewana (Diwana) Music Release

Kolkata, Jan 19, 2013 (Washington Bangla Radio) After delivering a record breaking hit in the form of ‘Awara’, Tollywood Superstar Jeet and director Ravi Kinagi are all set to repeat the feat with the latest movie ‘Dewaana’.

The movie will also see one of the hottest and most successful pairings of the Bengali film Industry as Jeet is again being paired up with Srabanti.  The storyline of this film is based on the Tamil film Deepavali (2007), directed by Thulladha Manamum Thullum and it goes like this:

Jeet plays the role of Abhi who lives in a small town named Phoolbari. Abhi is a free spirited fun loving guy and is quite popular in the small township of Phoolbari. He happens to meet Shruti (Srabanti) who comes to the town for a pleasure trip. Slowly they fall for each other.

Among all these Shruti is diagonised with a disease called ‘Post Traumatic Disorder’ a condition which generally arises from any kind of trauma and the victim of this disorder loses the memory of a particular time period. In Shruti’s case it is found that she has no memory of a three years time period.

When taken to doctor, Shruti was told that she may get cured but she will lose all memories of the present time which includes her visit to Phoolbari and her falling in love with Abhi. Shruti gets sad and makes Abhi promise that he would never let go her hand.

But Shruti’s father (Bharat Kaul), a feared mafia opposes this and gets Abhi beaten up and takes Shruti back home to Kolkata. Abhi had promised never to leave her beloved but when he reaches Kolkata, he finds that Shruti has been completely cured but she has no memory of Phoolbari, just as predicted by the Doctors. What happens to Abhi and Shruti forms the climax.

The film also stars Tulika Basu, Supriyo Dutta and Mausumi Das in important roles.

The music of this film has been scored by Dev Sen who was also a part of ‘Awara’ as he shared the credits of music direction along with Jeet Ganguly. In fact it was the film ‘Awara’ which brought him to limelight. He has scored an excellent soundtrack for the film and some songs will top the charts for some weeks. Songs like ‘Baja Sanai’ and ‘De Signal’ have already become hits.

The script has been written by N.K. Salil who is known for his powerful yet peppy dialogues. The film has a lot of action and thus N.K.Salil has a lot of options to induce what he is best at. The promos are hinting that he has used the opportunity to expose his best. Mohan Verma is the cinematographer of the film while Mohammed Kalam is in charge of the editing.

This film will also mark the debut of Reliance Entertainment in Bengali film industry and they surely will try to start their journey with a hit. Given the recent high of Jeet and the track record of the Jeet-Srabanti combination, becoming a hit will almost be a walk in the park for the film.
