21st Prayag Kalakar Awards to be Presented in Kolkata

Kolkata, Jan 8, 2013 (Washington Bangla Radio) To celebrate the festive mood and welcome the New Year all around the city, the very well known Prayag Group is going to organize ‘Prayag Kalakar’ Awards at Science City Auditorium on 13th of the month of January. Keeping on the consistency this year also the well known business group is on the frontage to celebrate the grand evening for the 21st years with a star studded occasion. Kalakar Awards was introduced in 1993 in a small and simple way but today it is recognized as one of the leading Award Ceremonies in Eastern India that to honour the legends in the world of cinema, small screen, entertainment and culture as well.

This year will see its 21st years of celebration will be comprised of the superstar and icons of Indian Film Industry from the Eastern India and the dazzling affair will be dedicate the gala time to the 100th years of Indian Cinema, right from the age of Raja Harishchandra to Cocktail, Barfi or Talaash lately.

The event for this year was announced on 2nd January at a press meet. At the press meet Goutam Ghose, the renowned film maker and one of the key men form the advisory board informed that in this 21st Annual Prayag Kalakar Awards is going to felicitate Amala Shankar, the legendary danseuse with Lifetime Achievement award. For her immense contribution to Indian Dacnce scenario and for being the guide of so many distinguished talents all over the world, the 94 years old will be presented with the Lifetime Achievement award.

Amala Shankar who was present at the press meet delightedly spoke to the media, “I am very thankful to Kalakar Awards for recognizing me as one of the major achievers from Eastern India. At a very young age I came to India from Bangladesh after marriage. Being the wife of world famous Uday Shankar has taught me to love everyone and being loved by everyone. If your fondness was not there I could never reach at the position where I am standing today as a woman through dance.“

Director Goutam Ghosh spoke on this context, “I have been following this lady and in association with her since my youth. Everyone recognize her for her in born dance within herself. But as a human being how excellent is she, it is my fortune that I have been getting familiar with it. I salute this motherly figure for her immense contribution in cinema and cultural sphere, still in 94 years of age.”

Prayag Kalakar Awards which for the past twentieth years have been valuing the significance of popular faces from Indian cinema and television screen, even from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Nepal as well. This popular award ceremony is the brain child of its Chairman Ashok Kalanauria who has been assisted and advised by many dignitaries of West Bengal.

The past awardees from Bollywood stars that have been conferred to Kalakar awards were Vyjayantimala Bali, Dharmendra, Late Shammi Kapoor, Gazal maestro Gulam Ali, Asha Parekh, Runa Laila, Late Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Late Amrish Puri, Jayaprada, Late Dara Sing, Rani Mukherjee, Rishi Kapoor, Ekta Kapoor, Emran Hashmi, Farhan Akhtar, Kumar Sanu, Bappi Lahiri, along with other famous names from Tollywood like Goutam Ghosh, Prosenjit, Rituparna Sengupta, Dev, Jeet, Aparna Sen, Konkona Sen Sharma, Koel Mulick, Rituparno Ghosh, Bickram Ghosh and so on.

This year the personalities who will dazzle in the grand evening with their presence and performances at  Kalakar award and be awarded with are Boman Irani, Prem Chopra, Farha Khan, director Shoojit Sircar, Priyanshu Chatterjee, Dev, Rituparna, Parambrata, Runa Laila, Udit Narayan, and many of the popular faces of television. The much talked item girl Claudia Ciesla will also be a part of the award function.
