January 31, 2012 (Washington Bangla Radio/ Penning Creations): The Bengali film industry is sure experiencing a turn of tide. Sounds period? Well, when an international production house makes inroad into Tollywood, it is but natural to reiterate this now-quite-dated fact about the Bengali films that are being made today. Adding to the brand new image of the industry, the Swiss-based production company, Dapro Film Production formally announced the launch of their first Bengali film, ‘Holud Pakhir Dana- the Yellow Wings’ through a press meet. Incidentally, the company is owned by the NRI architecture and engineer, Mr. Bidu Das who had invited and addressed the media for the occasion.

The event was held on January 28, 2012 at 5. 30 pm at the plush banquet hall of the Princeton Club. In a room thick with the media and the shutterbugs, the cast and the crew of the film were introduced by the director of the movie, Mr. Kanoj Das (of the ‘Thikana Rajpath’ fame). Veteran film and television actors, Laboni Sarkar, Monu Mukherjee, Koushik Banerjee and Sangita apart, other crew members including the cameraman, Kamal Nayek were present at the event. However, not budging to break the surprise, the director said that the main star cast would be announced later. Turning to the evening’s proceedings, urged by Mr. Kanoj Das, Mr. Bidu Das shared with the media his hopes and aspirations attached with the film that is based on a story penned by him. Talking of a difference in work culture in his homeland and in Kolkata, he stressed on the necessity of discipline, which he had noticed was largely missing here. Nevertheless, he was all praises for the hard work and effort of Kanoj Das that the producer had witnessed on the sets of his ongoing shooting of ‘Chupi Chupi Mon Churi’ and even spoke about his plans of taking the Bengali film industry global through his next movie production based on yet another book which he is currently working on, considering the present venture wins applause. The director and the cast promised to put their best foot forward and asked for the support from the media and the audience to make this maiden endeavor successful.

The story of the film is centered on the life of a doctor couple who meet under strange circumstances. Riju, a foreign return doctor from a well-to-do family goes to practice in a village as per his parent’s wishes. In an unfortunate course of action, he loses his mother to an illness and meets Dr. Saheli who extends a helping hand to a deeply hurt and bereaving Riju. Love ensues and they marry to settle in the village where Riju serves. Saheli agrees, however, she is not too late to realize that their dreams and their value systems do not match. Hence she leaves Riju one night. Riju, still in a haze, embarks on search. Will he find Saheli eventually?...the film solves this question in an interesting turn of incidents.

The film goes on floor in mid-April and the tentative release date is due in the 1st week of October this year. The film is mostly going to be shot at the scenic locales in North Bengal and amidst the beautiful pastoral settings.

A film that does not conform to the current blood and gory and skin-show ritual of the mainstream movies, the director promised that ‘Holud Pakhir Dana’ will be a total family movie that will give the audience the taste of “a traditional Bengali cinema”, according to the director.

We wish the team good luck and success!
