CBI arrests top official in Emaar case



Hyderabad, Jan 30 (IBNS): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday arrested a top government officer of Andhra Pradesh in connection with his alleged role in the Emaar case.

Andhra Pradesh's Home Secretary BP Acharya was detained by the probe agency for alleged irregularities in the transfer of land and sale of apartments in the township that was developed jointly by a state-run Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) and Emaar Properties.


Emaar is a Dubai based infrastructure firm and the joint project was developed in Hyderabad.

The controversial partnership between Emaar and APIIC was forged during the tenure of deceased Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister  Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

Acharya is the third person who was arrested in connection with the scam.He was the Managing Director of the APIIC in 2005.
