'TENI DA' Returns (Bengali Theatre)

Good News for all the fans of Teni da and Narayan Gangopadhyay. Oikyo Natyo Goshti is bringing back the charm of Teni da to the people of Calcutta.

Comprising of students from various reputed colleges of Kolkata like St. Xavier's College, Jadavpur University, Loreto College and many other, Oikyo was formed on 1st of December 2011. Oikyo Natyo Goshti is essentially involved in doing Bengali theatre. All of us come from different streams of education but it is the love of Bengali theatre which has brought us together. We are united in our endeavour and we want to give the busy audience in front of us a thoughtful show. Oikyo, is our way of promoting Bengali theatre and for us the journey has just begun......
Come 1st of February, 2012 Oikyo will be ready with their first production " Tenida Ekhon" to be staged at Gyan Manch. Inspired by the famous "Charmurti" created by Narayan Gangopadhyay.

" Tenida Ekhon" is written and directed by Soham Sen. Our play revolves around Tenida and his famous side kicks Habul, Kebla and Pyala, but unlike the original they all are a part of today's Kolkata. Tenida, unlike today's youth is not even remotely bothered about career. He loves the way he leads his life which involves a daily dose of alu kabli, phuchka, all those famous football matches which he has been a part of and of course the famous Chatturjeder Rock, his favourite hangout. Whereas Kebla, represents majority of today's youth. Career is his utmost prority and for that he can do anything and everything, even if such an action demands snapping off conatacts with his childhood friends. Habul and Pyala, are the way they were. Their life revolves around Tenida and everything which he does. According to them, he is their " Gurudeb".

Set against this backdrop, our play explores the other side of Tenida, the other side of Kolkata. How much Kolkata has changed behind those massive shopping malls, where humanity is just a word with no such meaning, where everything is done keeping some future benefits in mind. Their life, their family, their happiness is what which matters to them and nothing else. They don't even bother to dump their old parents in an old age home and run abroad. To them money matters, not the conscience, which is why a kid lies unattended at the middle of the road.
So, what happens to the famous Charmurti ? Are they still the same ? What matters to them, humanity or money ? Do we still get to hear the famous chorus " di-la-grandi-mefistofilis. yack ! yack ! " ? Is change inevitable ?
