Interview - Subrat Dutt : Bollywood, Hindi and Bengali Movie Actor

SUBRAT DUTTIn an exclusive interview with Mohua Das in The Telegraph, Indian actor Subrat Dutt talks about his award-winning performance in Madholal Keep Walking (2009). "The director Jai Tank had seen my showreel and felt I had a versatile face. It took a month to complete the look test since I was sporting a shaved head after (Suman Mukhopadhyay’s) Chaturanga." says Subrata.

Bengali film actor Subrata Dutta, who has also started to appear in Bollywood flicks as Subrat Dutt, has movies like Bibar (2006), Uttara (2000), Swapner Feriwala (2002), Doshta Dosh (2008), Chaturanga (2008), Tomar Jonyo (2008) in Bengali, and Lajja (2001), Mangal Pandey - The Rising (2005) in Hindi, to his credit.

Subrata is a graduate of the National School of Drama, New Delhi, and has trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London. He received the Best Actor award at the 8th Osian Cinefan Festival 2006 for the Bengali film, Bibar - Calcutta unabashed. He has, so far, played the lead role in more than eight films in four languages. He is actives in both theater and movies.

BIBAR is adapted from Samaresh Basu's novel Calcutta Unabashed, and is directed by Subrata Sen. Subrat Dutt received a best actor award for his role in the film.


In poet-director Buddhadeb Dasgupta's UTTARA, Subroto Dutta played a Hindu fundamentalist. Uttara is also based on a story by writer Samaresh Basu.

SHOPNER FERIWALA, directed by Subrata Sen, was the first film starring Bengali actress Nilanjana Sharma. Subrata Dutta was seen as a magician in Swapner Feriwala.

Rajkumar Santoshi's LAJJA saw Subrat Dutt acting alongside stars like Ajay Devgan, Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Rekha, Manisha Koirala, Jackie Shroff, Danny Denzongpa and other big Bollywood heroes and heroines. Subrata Dutta appeared as Parmanand Jha in Ketan Mehta's Mangal Pandey - The Rising alongside Aamri Khan, Amisha Patel, Rani Mukherjee and others. Recently, Subrat was awarded as the Best Actor in Cairo International Film Festival for Jai Tank's Madholal Keep Walking.
