Interview - Rajesh Roy, Music Director and Pritha, Playback artist | PA MA GA RE SA (2009) Kolkata Bengali Movie

Rajesh Roy - Bollywood and Bengali Film Songs Music ComposerThe credited cast and crew of the Bengali movie Pa Ma Ga Re Sa are mainly from Mumbai, bringing to the film an essence of true professionalism, but at the same time they wish to send one message to the audience: the film is truly Bengali in flavour as almost all members of the cast and crew are Bengali by ethnicity. So the music director Rajesh and the lead female playback singer Pritha are both Mumbai based Bengalis.

Rajesh is the son of the eminent composer Sumit Roy and started his musical journey at a very early age. Rajesh is renowned in Mumbai and has worked as a singer with music directors like Pritam in the Bollywood musical hit movie “Jab We Met”as well as the recent Bollywood hit "All The Best". He has also composed music for the hit animated movie “My Friend Ganesha” and movies like “Antwerp Hill”. As a well-known music composer in Bollywood, he had agreed to work for Pa Ma Ga Re Sa due to the scope of exploration of his own musical talent for this Bengali musical movie. He has truly demonstrated his musical talent in the musical score  of this movie, as he has blended oriental and western music styles very efficiently.

Rajesh is performing in shows all over the world.

Pritha - Bollywood and Bengali Film Songs Playback ArtistRajesh is married to Kolkata-born Pritha. Pritha’s singing abilities were acclaimed from a very tender age, and she caught the eyes (or ears) of established stalwarts like Manna Dey and Laxmikant Pyarelal at the television talent hunt competition “Meri Awaz Suno” on Doordarshan in early 1990s. She is a winner in the TV show,  recognized for her melodious voice and depth in music.

Pritha is trained in vocal performances. From the mid 1990s she has started to do stage shows all over the world, as well as contributing as a playback singer to Bollywood movies by eminent production houses and directors like Yash Chopra.

Pritha is well known for her sense of music, good voice and generous behavior. Her rendition of playback songs lip-synced by the character Paromita (played by Bengali actress and Miss India 2002 winner Reshmi Ghosh) in the movie “Pa Ma Ga Re Sa” is particularly noteworthy.

Pritha is comfortable with virtually any genre of music, including Indian Classical vocal.

Both Pritha and Rajesh are presently working on more Bengali films along with Bollywood ones. They look forward to lending their talent to good Bengali projects like Pa Ma Ga Re Sa.

The songs and music in the musical bonanza movie Pa Ma Ga Re Sa are hits,  and Washington Bangla Radio wishes even greater success for the musical couple Rajesh-Pritha in future.
