Blenders Pride Fashion Tour 2014 takes Kolkata by storm


Kolkata, December 15, 2014 (Washington Bangla Radio): Celebrating ‘Substance in Style’ carves the path for the 10th edition of Blenders Pride Fashion Tour. The tour arrived to the city of joy, Kolkata in its final stop.

The first evening of the two day fashion tour was impeccably crafted to bring out the best in design, music, technology and style.

A true ambassador of Style and Substance, Irrfan Khan set the stage by decoding his style in this 10th edition of the tour. Handcrafted to perfection is almost synonymous to the Blenders Pride Reserve Designers for the evening, Varun Bahl and Abraham & Thakore who showcased their creations on the first day of the tour in Kolkata. Groovy notes of music, by Gaurav Raina and Tapan Raj, blended with the essence of designs on the ramp, epitomising true craftsmanship.

At Blenders Pride Fashion Tour, the technology concepts comprising of augmented reality and social media, along with explicitly curated music by Midival Punditz, for the entire tour, kept the audiences engaged and excited. The décor exuded handcraft and delicate patterns that accentuated the whole experience.


Transforming the look of every model, imbibing his signature colour palettes whilst featuring his beloved floral embroideries, the quintessentially western silhouettes of Varun Bahl, brought elegance to the ramp - curated in nuanced texture and high quality, painstakingly handcrafted embroidery. Speaking on his view about Style, the ace designer said “I am happy to be a part of Blenders Pride Fashion Tour, a platform where style is beyond the ordinary. For me style is elegance. The woman who wears my clothes is a global soul, sensual yet elegant, understated, yet chic. To live in such a diverse culture with confidence, she must have a wardrobe that respects and represents her global nature and life. Style for me is global. These are clothes for the new Indian woman, who is ambitious, strong, and knows how to push her boundaries. This year’s collection is a distillate of my decade in fashion.”





Shaped by a palette based on the golden hues of wild silk, Abraham & Thakore unveiled collection based on the urban shikar, where the streets of a city are the terrain, a smartphone is the defense.

Decoding style in their own elegant way they said, “Style is in art, music, design and culture. We believe style is in the substance of a city. We come from Delhi, a city which has got many facets, thus making it a terrific place for developing individual styles. Blenders Pride Fashion Tour, too, is all about decoding the various facets of style and we are delighted to showcase our collection on the ramp here.”

Notable Bollywood actor, Irrfan Khan elucidated his definition of style, “I am delighted to be associated with Blenders Pride Fashion Tour 2014 as this is one platform which goes beyond fashion and defines style with substance. The first day of the tour in Kolkata brought together an entourage of brilliant artists exuding style that is essence of their success. With distinguished hues, motifs, techno artistic treats and punk chords, the riveting evening ended while setting the stage for another day of verve.



The second evening of the fashion tour in the city of Joy witnessed models strutting down the runway donning the cutting edge collections of Pankaj & Nidhi and Namrata Joshipura. The final day of the tour presented an array of stylish couture and mesmerized the crowd with groovy electro-rock beats of Shaa’ir + Func and Grain.

Bringing together a concoction of design, music and technology, this tour, in its tenth edition, celebrates absolution in style. In a moment of magnificence the models captured the onlookers as they walked the runway in the latest Blenders Pride Fashion Tour collection of Pankaj & Nidhi, ‘The Glass House by the Sea.’ Known for their generous use of colors, inspired by today’s trends, symbolic and cultural objects from all over the world, Pankaj & Nidhi stunned the audience with their breathtaking designs yet again and led them to a wonderland of light, mystery and hope. And that was not all as the scintillating former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen left the audience enthralled as she walked down the ramp in the finale design.


Unleashing their collection, Pankaj & Nidhi shared, “We are incredibly excited to launch our latest Blenders Pride Fashion Tour collection and to be part of the first chapter of this grand tour. Our collection takes inspiration from the Glass House, which is a place of extraordinary visual delight with mirrors and glass panes affecting a myriad of infinite reflections originating from the water and landscape surrounding it. These are interpreted in three dimensional layered embroideries using specially developed reflective materials in the outfits that we have designed.” 


Namrata Joshipura, ‘the queen of prêt’, came next to present her contemporary and edgy designs. Her designs showcased bold colors, chic street sport profiles and dressier skirts, falls personifying strong women, who don’t have any hesitation in turning heads when they enter a room. Representing the strong and eternal sense of personal style, Namrata Joshipura twisted convention with stunning execution.

Commenting on the occasion, Namrata Joshipura said, “Extremely proud to be a part of the Blenders Pride Fashion Tour. My Spring 15’ collection is a statement of strong silhouettes with beautiful embroideries and prints - the juxtaposition is provocative and exciting. Strong accents such as jewel encrusted necks and vibrant prints bring the collection to life.” 


The evening became entrancing as the audience grooved to the beats of prolific music duo Shaa’ir + Func. The duo rocked the spectators with their brilliant performance that blended perfectly with the spectacularly styled evening, ending the Blenders Pride Fashion Tour 2014 on a high and stylish note with the promise to go grander in the next year.
