Jazz Fest from 29th November to 1st December Promises to Woo Listeners with Great Music

Jyoti Prakash Mondal, Kolkata, December 3, 2013 (Washington Bangla Radio): From 29th November till 1st of December, the city of Kolkata experienced the music by Jazz maestros from all over the country and also from abroad. The Jazz fest 2013 brought forth musicians from all over the globe to the city. Organized by the Dalhousie Institute in association with Congo Square, this was the eleventh festival. The festival kick started in the year 2004 and has been going strong till now. The press meet of the event took place recently at Dalhousie Institute where artists who would be performing at the fest like Gaurab Chatterjee, Akash Mittal, Nishad Pandey were also present to address the press.

Congo Square is actually a non-profit organization which is dedicated solely for the promotion of music genres like blues, jazz in the country. The association in collaboration with the various consulates, art councils, art agencies, has been operating all over the world. It is with their help and initiative that renowned artists from all over the world have been brought to this fest. Musicians will be coming from USA, Netherlands, Mexico, Australia, Germany and Czech Republic.


“The best part for the listeners will be the fact that they will be able to view musicians from all over the world back in Kolkata. They will not have to travel to various parts of the world to listen to them. Jazz music which was initially tagged as music for the erudite have now steadily started gaining a foothold among the younger generations of music admirers and aspirants.” said Satyajit Roy Chowdhury who is the President of Congo Square. He even urged the people to come to the Dalhousie Institute at sharp 6.30 pm so that the musicians do not have to start the show in a hall half filled with audience.



On the first day of the festival, Carlos Bica, Azul trio and Milan Svoboda Quartet will be performing. The second day wills ee performances by Akash Mittal Quintet and Prasanna and the Swanabhoomi Academy of Music faculty band. On the final day of the festival, Yuri Honing and George Brooks Summit will be performing for the audience.


The most exciting part of this fest were the performance of the two-time Grammy Nominee Cuban American Drummer Dafnis Prieto, the bass legend Kai Eckhardt, noted double bass player and composer Carlos Bica, Dutch saxophonist Yuri Honing, Prasanna and George Brooks.
