Kolkata, Dec 9, 2012 (Washington Bangla Radio) It is difficult for a film premiere to be bigger and grander than when two top personalities of the film industry join hands to produce a film with a host of youngsters in its cast. The evening of 6th December witnessed a grand premiere of ‘Bapi bari jaa’ which is produced jointly by Venkatesh Films and Prosenjit Chatterjee at South city mall.
Rituparno Ghosh, Abhijit Guha and Sudeshna Roy
When Washington Bangla Radio asked Prosenjit about trying his hand in directing a film after acting and producing, he said, “I have done a bit of direction before. I would surely like to come back to direction some day.” He also added with a twinkle in his eyes that it may happen sooner if Venkatesh films offered him a directorial opportunity - a comment not lost on the lead man of the production house standing next to Bumba da.
The film is about a confused guy Bapi and his
growing up to be a mature man. Arjun Chakraborty, who is playing the
title role ‘Bapi’, told WBRi that he, in real life, is quite different
from ‘Bapi’ and unlike ‘Bapi’ he is quite confident and mature. He also
added that knowing Mimi and Shamli from the days of ‘Gaaner Opare’ has
helped in enhancing the on-screen chemistry between them.
Almost the entire Indian Kolkata Bangla movie industry gathered at the multiplex. The director duo of Sudeshna Roy in a black saree and Abhijit Guha were seen welcoming guests.
Abir Chatterjee, Tota Roy Chowdury and Saswata Chatterjee aka ‘Bob Biswas’ were among the first Kolkata Bengali movie stars to be seen lighting up the evening. Abir - who plays a cameo in the film - was looking cool in a cobalt blue T-shirt while Tota was neatly dressed in a grey blazer. Saswata in a red sweater reminded us that Winter is here.
It was then time for the cast members of the Bangla movie to enter. Arjun Chakraborty arrived with his father Sabyasachi Chakraborty. Mimi made her entry looking stunning in a white dress. Shamli - her co-star in the film as well as the popular television serial ‘Gaaner Opare’ - was looking attractive in a red dress with her short hair accenting her appeal.
Another delightful moment for shutterbugs arrived when three young faces from the industry enlightened the venue. Shaheb Bhattacharya, Gaurab Chakraborty and Riddhima Ghosh presented some pretty poses for the cameras clicking all around. Shaheb Bhattacharya was dazzling in a bright white blazer while Bengali actress Riddhima was looking sizzling hot in a short striped dress. Gaurab looked dignified sporting a brown casual jacket. A few minutes later Parno Mitra arrived and was seen chatting with Shaheb for a few moments. Mumtaz Sorcar also made it to the event in time looking sharp in a leather jacket and tight jeans.
June Malia, Churni Ganguly, Kaushik Ganguly, Mainak Bhowmick and Joy Ganguly were also spotted at the premiere as was fahsion designer Agnimitra Paul.
The arrival of popular actor-producer Prosenjit Chatterjee and Shree Venkatesh Films' Srikant Mohta generated a commotion with the experienced reporters proving themselves right in their prediction. Bumba-da, the biggest name of the industry, had arrived in style.
