Japanese companies eager to invest and expand their business in Bangladesh

Dhaka, Bangladesh, Dec 5, 2012 (Washington Bangla Radio) Mr. Hiromitsu Kuramoto, President of Yusen Logistics Co. Ltd. Tokyo, Japan leading a delegation arrived in the city on Monday, December 03, 2012 evening on a two day visit to  Bangladesh to attend the official launching ceremony of Yusen Logistics (Bangladesh) Ltd. – a wholly owned subsidiary of world renowned Japanese Shipping conglomerate NYK Group.

A function dinner was held at the grand ball room of Radisson Blu Hotel in the city on Tuesday, December 04, 2012 evening. The event was attended by a large number of distinguished guests consisting of high government officials, business leaders, patrons and a host of representatives from Japanese and Bangladeshi business community including shipping and airlines executives. The function was graced by Mr. Kuramoto and His Excellency Mr. Shiro Sadoshima, Japanese Ambassador in Dhaka as special guests. Mr. Kunihiko Miyoshi, Chairman of NYK Group South Asia, Mr. Tatsuo Aoyagi, Chief Regional Officer – Asia & Oceania of Yusen Logistics, Capt. Chak Kwok Wai, Managing Director of NYK Group South Asia, Mr. Takeshi Tsurumaki, General Manager of Yusen Logistics Co. Ltd. Tokyo, Mr. Muneaki Saitoh, Mr. Masahiko Ishikawa, Mr. Shinya Kodama, Mr. Tatsuya Yoshimuta of Yusen Logistics SAO, Singapore and Mr. Akihiro Azuma, Yusen Logistics representative for Bangladesh and Myanmar, Md. Rashed Ahmed Ali, Chairman & MD of  Yusen Logistics (Bangladesh) Ltd. also attended the event.

His Excellency Mr. Shiro Sadoshima said, Bangladesh has achieved a remarkable growth rate, so there are numerous Japanese companies who want to invest and expand their business here. But due to the lack of efficient logistic support they feel reluctant to do so. To resolve this issue, Bangladesh needs an efficient logistic company.

During his speech, Mr. Kuramoto recognized the potential of Bangladesh as an emerging nation in Asia who tipped as one of N-11 country, being one of the foremost reasons for establishing Yusen Logistics Bangladesh. He said, “We consider Bangladesh to have great potential for growth and development and therefore, we remain committed to expanding our business in Bangladesh. We wish to further strengthen and develop our business out of Bangladesh by offering more value added services and introducing specialized services focusing emerging sectors in Bangladesh including readymade garments/textiles, leather etc.” The vote of thanks was delivered by Md. Rashed Ahmed Ali, Chairman & MD of Yusen Logistics (Bangladesh) Ltd.

Yusen Logistics Co. Ltd. was formed in 2010 through the merger of Yusen Air & Sea Service (originating in 1955) and NYK Logistics (originating in 1983). It ranks 5th among the top 20 logistics companies in the world with net sales over US$ 3 billion in 2012. Yusen Logistics is a global giant in the logistics sector with operations across the globe in 37 countries in 275 cities around 406 locations and with warehouse space over 1.8 million sqm.

Mr. Kuramoto also paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Shiro Sadoshima, Japanese Ambassador in Dhaka accompanied by the visiting delegation. Later on he visited the newly established Yusen Logistics (Bangladesh) Ltd. head office in Dhaka.
