Ansuman Roy: My Father in my eyes By Bhaskar Roy | Exclusive Unpublished Pictures | Folk Tribal Bengali Baul Songs | Bangla Baul

Ansuman Roy

From my early childhood, I have seen and felt ANSUMAN ROY more as an artist and then as a father. My mornings used to begin with the sounds of his practice (REWAAJ) with the TANPURA.

Rare Pictures of Ansuman Roy - A Nostalgic Slideshow

Contributed Exclusively to Washington Bangla Radio by Bhaskar Roy:

I have grown up in this musical environment and so has my interest in music.

Apart from music my father had interest in other fields of art too, be it painting, writing poems, cooking, handicrafts etc. Whenever he got some free time he would try out new recipes which turned out to be fabulous. On Sundays he would not let my mother in the kitchen and he took charge.

The following are some articles and poems composed by Ansuman Roy, exclusively on WashingtonBanglaRadio.com. Click on the images for an enlarged version.

He loved playing different musical instruments like flute, violin, tabla and madol. Apart from being an artist he was a government employee.

Like any other artist, he too was very moody, a little short tempered sometimes, solemn, but lion hearted in the true sense. Though he used to be busy with his work he never neglected his family.

He kept an eye on our studies, extra curricular activities and surprised us often by taking us out for dinner. On holidays he took us to the pond near our house for fishing. There I saw him sit for hours patiently for the fish to get caught.

At his young age he went through a lot of struggle. He had come to Calcutta to establish himself as a singer and had to face many hardships but never lost hope, and had immense faith in the almighty. It is from him that I have learnt to be patient, hardworking and having a positive attitude towards everything. Whatever I am today it is all because of him and the principles that he has inculcated in me.
