Kolkata Television Stars Celebrate Bengali TV at Big Bangla TV Awards 2010 - MAA (STAR Jalsha) wins multiple awards

CALCUTTA, Dec 12, 2010 (Washington Bangla Radio) Kolkata witnessed one for the biggest nights for the Bangla TV industry when the Big Bangla Television Awards 2010 was held at the Nazrul Manch on 12th December 2010 to celebrate Bangla television and honour the small screen characters.

The awards had a jury comprising of eminent actress Kheyali Dastidar, noted compere Madhumanti Maitra and the ace DOP Soumik Haldar whose recent work includes Autograph (Bengali, 2010) [director Srijit Mukherjee exclusive interview].

The viewers voted for their favourite characters through SMS and physical ballots. The event had been promoted from beforehand through radio, television, ground activation and other means.

There were quite a few live performances on the night which included performances by Rupam Islam (including Fossils), Nachiketa, National award winning Ananya Chatterjee (exclusive interview) who performed a number and a host of other popular faces on television such as Bhaswar, Riju, Monami, Sonalee, Sudipta, Koneenica, Manoj and Sagnik.

Maa, a popular serial on Star Jalsha completely whitewashed the nominations and swept away the other contenders as it won in all major categories in which it was nominated like Sobcheyo Priyo Maa, Sobcheyo Priyo Baba, Sobcheyo Priyo Sonamoni, Sobcheyo Priyo Sasuri, Sobcheyo Priyo Nayak, Sobcheyo Priyo Paribaar and Sobcheyo Priyo Serial.

Bhaswar Chatterjee won the award for Sobcheyo Priyo Nayak for Maa and Monami Ghosh the Sobcheyo Priyo Nayika for Mohor.

The event was sponsored by Guinea Life and the associate sponsors AIMS, MPS, Chaya Prakashani.The official channel was ETV, cable partner Siti Cable and print partners The Telegraph and The Bengal Post.
