Calcutta, Jan 16, 2011 (Washington Bangla Radio) 'Corporate Social Responsibility' is a part of parcel of every organization which undertakes a responsibility of giving back to the society in their own way. Each company undertakes this role in a different way.
The ICSI (The Institute of Company Secretaries in India) is a premier body under the Companies Secretaries Act where there are about 25,00 members and most of the members occupy key positions in the Corporate sectors as well as in the government.
They have decided to attach themselves with the Tollywood industry by helping artistes of yesteryears (some of them not financially well off) and this is how they wish to give back to society. In fact they can even think of honoring technicians as well as they are equally deserving.
A talk was organized at the Oberoi Grand on 15th Jan, 2010 where quite a few eminent people, most of them part of the panel which chose the 6 deserving artistes of yesteryears to be felicitated spoke on the subject and asked the corporate sector to lend a helping hand to help the industry.Biplab Chatterjee ,Minakshi Goswami,Agnimtra Paul were the key speakers.Mr.Basudeb Bagchi, chairman of Prayag Group of Companies and the main sponsor for this event spoke on this occasion and told the people present of his pet project- a Film City which will be built in Chandrakona, West Midnapore and will be one of the best places for shooting.
Later cheques of Rs25, 000 (sponsored by Prayag) were handed over by Sandip Roy (eminent director and part of the panel) to each of the six artists who were felicitated-Lolita Chatterjee, Sambhu Bhattacharya, Arati Das (Miss Shefali), Bulbul Choudhury, Jayashree Sen and Gita Dey.Though Shambhu Bhattacharya and Gita Dey were not present themselves, members of their family accepted the cheques on their behalf. This is the first step towards corporate social responsibility taken by ICSI and they have decided to do something for the industry in the future as well as part of their corporate social responsibility with the help of companies like Prayag, the main sponsor for the event which also had the support of 93.5Red Fm.
We should all be thankful to Ms. Mamta Binani, Chairperson, Eastern India Regional Council (ICSI) for taking this initiative and also the Prayag Group for supporting such an initiative.
