North Indian Hindustani Classical Program by Moumita Mitra at IIC New Delhi in December 2009

North Indian Hindustani Classical Live Performance Program - Moumita MitraIndia International Centre, New Delhi, is organizing a program of Hindustani Vocal Recital by Moumita Mitra  from Kolkata, Disciple of Late Pt A Kannan and Anjan Majumdar , On Thursday, 3rd December 2009 at 6.30 pm in the Centre’s Auditorium.

Moumita has learnt music from Lt. Pt. A. Kannan and his student Shri Anjan Majumdar. Today she has imbibed a distinguished ‘gayaki’ style of her own.

She is a national scholarship holder in Khayal from The Dept. of Culture, Government of India. She is the winner of many prestigious competitions of Classical and semi-classical vocal recitals and has been performing in many prestigious concerts across India.

Over the years Moumita has performed in noted programmes organised by The Dover Lane Music Conference in Calcutta in the year 2002, in Swar Vilas(Gujrat) concert in 2004 and 2005, she has participated in concerts held in Lahore and Karachi in Pakistan in 2008, Swar Ganga Music Festival in Thane in 2007, Bhavan’s cultural Centre in Mumbai in 2008,  Aanandi’s Annual Classical Music Conference in Kolkata in 2005 and 2006, Dhwani’s Annual Classical Music Conference at Murshidabad in 2006, Chhondobani’s Annual Music Conference in Kolkata in 2007, concert organized by P&M Records in 2007 on the occasion of her CD release. In addition she has also rendered the title music for ‘Dhondo, ‘Porojibon’ and ‘Shudhu Tomari Jonno’ (all telefilms). At present she is a regular artist with Tara Music and has also performed in various TV channels like Etv Bangla, Zee Bangla, Tara Music and Doordarshan, Kolkata.

With her promising potential, numerous awards and honours have gone to her. To mention a few, she was awarded for her rendition of Khayal and Thumri in The Doverlane Music Competition in the years 2002 and 2005 respectively. She was given the honour to perform at the inaugural ceremony of Doverlane Music Conference on its Golden Jubilee celebration in 2002. She has also been conferred with the title of “Adwitiya 2004” in classical vocal, in the competition organized by Anandabazar  Patrika and Shalimar. 

She has 3 music albums to her credit. An album from HMV titled “Ei Prothom” on Bengali Modern songs was released in 2000. ‘Music 2000’ titled “Journey of a musical soul” on khayal was released in 2006 and P&M Records produced a CD titled “Solely musical…a musical soul…” based on her thumri-dadra recitals released in 2007. Very recently her music was broadcasted on World Satellite Radio on the Radio Gandharva channel.
