India's Oldest Film Festival - IFFI 2009: The 40th International Film Festival Of India 2009, Panaji, Goa, 11/23 - 12/3 2009

IFFI 2009 Official LogoThe Directorate of Film Festivals, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, the State Government of Goa, and the Indian Film Industry are organizing the 40th International Film Festival Of India (IFFI) 2009 at Panaji, Goa during November 23 - December 3, 2009.

The IFFI is the oldest and most respected Film Festival in India. The first IFFI was organized in 1952. There is not a lot of money given out the winners of competitions in various categories (the 2009 posted total award money is a meager $140,000), the real value of the IFFI awards are in the prestige, respect and recognition the awards bring to the winners of this International Federation of Film Producers’ Associations (FIAPF) recognized cinema event.

The  2009 IFFI has competitive categories for films from Asia, Asia Pacific, Africa and Latin America, and showcases the best of the Indian Film industry. Also there is a special exhibit in which the National Film Archives of India (NFAI) traces the almost 90 years of Indian Cinema history, displaying artifacts from as early the 1913 film "Raja Harishchandra" by Dadasaheb Phalke, who is considered the father of Indian movies.

Visit the IFFI 2009 Official website for more information.

The IFFI organizers have made the original (44 MB!) brochure in PDF format online here. This brochure is tastefully designed, and full of information all the films being featured at IFFI 2009.
