The stunning Bengali actress Bidita Bag known for her powerhouse performance in difficult character roles is venturing into commercial cinema, partly due to curiosity.  She says that she initially thought it was impossible for 11 directors to direct one film, as was the case with her upcoming thriller, ‘X: Past is Present’.

“It’s not 11 directors making 11 different stories but making one single film. I thought it was impossible. That’s why out of curiosity I got involved with the project.

I’ve done numerous serious roles and a lot of socio-political films, but this role demanded me to play an upcoming actress. This is what I am in real life, so there was no homework or any specific effort involved.

None of the 11 directors are new, and all are such good directors. I wouldn’t need to run around with my portfolio as all directors know me through this film. This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” said Bidita about the film which also stars Radhika Apte, Huma Qureshi, Swara Bhaskar among others.

Bidita is a known face for her diverse work since the past 6-7 years. She started out as a model and subsequently ventured into the advertising world where she featured in numerous ads for the top brands while working with the top ad directors like Pradeep Sarkar and Shoojit Sircar. But her deep desire was always to be a film actress.

Later, Bidita has displayed her acting chops in numerous Bengali films in performance-oriented roles such as her successful debut in ‘Icche’. This included addressing women’s concerns through her roles and performances and even risking her life to honour her commitment for a film. She reveals, “I’ve worked very hard on portraying  women’s social background and their economic condition.

Very few actors would have risked their lives to complete a film. But during the shooting of my film, ‘As The River Flows' there was a grenade attack in Assam. While shooting for ‘Chokher Paani’ in Nandigram, there were riots that broke out and I’ve even seen people die in front of me. I’ve worked in situations where there is a threat to life. And I’ve taken a lot of risk for these films, which included films that were blocked by political parties.”
