20th edition of Kolkata International Film Festival flagged of in style, turns competitive

Kolkata, November, 10, 2014 (Washington Bangla Radio): The 20th edition of Kolkata International film Festival begins its journey with a star studded evening as Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishekh Bachchan, Tanuja, Deepika Padukone , Irfaan Khan and other icons of the Indian cinema along with International delgetates like Paul Cox, Nikki Karimi and others as tghey shared the same stage and glammed up Netaji Indoor Stadium , the venue of the opening ceremony.

The local heartthrobs from the Bengali film Industry was also present at the event. No film related event in Kolkata cannot be imagined without Prosenjit Chatterjee who had single handedly ran the Bengali Movie industry for years and he too added glamour to the event. All this happened under the leadership of none other than Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister of West Bengal.

In this year’s edition of KIFF, there are a total of 137 films from as many as 60 countries. These films has been categorised into 15 segments.  31 Indian films, including 13 Bengali films will feature in the  list of the selected films. 40 international delegates will grace the occasion.


2014's version of KIFF is also significance due to the fact that KIFF has turned competitive from this edition. 15 films by women directors will compete for the Golden Royal Bengal Tiger Trophy . The jury of the award have on board international film icons like Paul Cox, and Nikki Karemi.
