Tollywood Actress Payel Sarkar and Cactus band members inaugurate India Haat Kolkata

Kolkata, November 1 (Washington Bangla Radio): India Haat is a unique initiative by the Rotary Club of Calcutta. It is a two day exhibition cum sale of jewelry, artifacts, home décor and the very best of the Lakme fashion designers like Aarti Vijay Gupta, Megha Garg, Panay Baidya, Sandeep Sarkar, Shyma Shetty and many more. The exhibition cum sale was inaugurated by Tollywood actress Payel Sarkar, Shamlu Dudeja and the members of the Bangla band Cactus.

“I have been associated with the events of the Rotary Club Calcutta. This is my second visit to the event organized by this club. The first visit was during Soyong Siddha. It feels great to be a part of such an initiative. The money that we are spending will be utilized for the saving of innocent lives. This in itself is a noble thought and the work done by the members of this club is praise worthy. The members of this club are surely spreading lights in the lives of many children during the upcoming festival of lights” said Payel Sarkar. The actress was amazed at the wonderful collections in the exhibition. The fifty seven stalls in this exhibition are from various parts of the country like Delhi, Ranchi and Jodhpur. There is also a stall from Kathmandu. A champagne gold sequined lehenga paired with a chiffon dupatta along with a funky chequered blouse caught the attention of the actress. Prices at forty five thousand, the lehenga have been designed by Pranay Baidya.

The actress whose Ashare Goppo was stalled is busy reading other scripts and is also busy shooting for a film. She declined to reveal the names of the films. However she also highlighted on the fact that the producer of the film Asare Goppo is trying hard to release the film.

Shamlu Dudeja’s NGO She Foundation also has a stall in this exhibition. The kantha stitch saris in this stall are the highlights of this stall. Due to the efforts of Shamlu Dudeja, the kantha stitch which was a dying art has been revived. The rural artisans have been getting the scope to highlight their creativity and also get the rightful payment for their work. This stall has beautiful saris, dress materials and small carpets for the households.

The Cactus band members who were also present at the exhibition brightened the day with their soulful rendition of the song “Bhalo Theko”. Sidhu of Cactus felt it to be a great honor for the band to be part of a noble initiative.

Two stalls which have come for the first time in this exhibition is one named Verandah and the other stall is a stall showcasing painting of Dr. Sudeep Ranjan Sarkar. Verandah is actually a stall catering to the needs of the people for the decoration of the interiors of their houses. Dr. Sudeep Ranjan Sarkar who apart from a psychologist is also a film maker, poet and painter also has given his stall showcasing his paintings. Dr. Sarkar has been painting for the last eight years. He plans to venture into jewelry designing in future. His next venture is a Hindi feature film named “Umformung”. This is a German word meaning transformation. According to Sarkar, this is not a typical Hindi film. This will appeal both to the masses and also to the critics. The film does not have the typical hero-heroine story. The director revealed only the name of Atreya, an eminent South Indian actress who is part of the film.
